BAY OF PLENTY.-EXISTENCE OF WRECK.

Mariners navigating in the Bay of Plenty are hereby warned that the wreck of the s.s. “Tasman,” which foundered recently off Rurima Rocks, is reported to lie in the following position: Latitude 37° 51' south, longitude 176° 50′ 10" east.

It is reported that the truck of the vessel's mainmast is exposed at low water.

ENGLAND.

SOUTH COAST.-THE DOWNS.-AMENDED POSITIONS OF LIGHT-VESSEL AND BUOYS.

(1.) South Goodwin light-vessel : Position.-At a distance of about one cable south-eastward from charted position. Lat. 51° 9' 1" N., long. 1° 27' 54" E. Description.-As described in the Admiralty List of Lights.

(2.) South-east Goodwin buoy : Position.-At a distance of about 1½ cables north-eastward from charted position. Lat. 51° 12' 55" N., long. 1° 34' 33" E. Description.-Black and white vertically striped can buoy.

(3.) Goodwin Fork buoy : Position.-At a distance of about 2 cables south-westward from charted position. Lat. 51° 13' 42" N., long. 1° 28' 27" E. Description.-Black conical buoy.

(4.) Mid Brake buoy : Position.-At a distance of about 2½ cables eastward from charted position. Lat. 51° 16' 58" N., long. 1° 27' 17" E. Description.-Black and white chequered can buoy.

(5.) Goodwin Knoll buoy : Position.-At a distance of about one cable eastward from charted position. Lat. 51° 18' 51" N., long. 1° 33' 36" E. Description.-Black conical buoy.

(6.) North Brake buoy : Position.-At a distance of about 2 cables north-eastward from charted position. Lat. 51° 19' 16" N., long. 1° 28' 25" E. Description.-Black and white vertically striped can buoy.

(7.) Gull light-buoy : Position.-At a distance of about one cable northward from charted position. Lat. 51° 19' 27" N., long. 1° 30' 54" E. Description.-Black and white chequered can light-buoy with group flashing white light.

RAMSGATE CHANNEL.-BUOY WITHDRAWN.

Position.-Near the western edge of Brake Sand and at a distance of about 13 cables southward from Ramsgate Harbour entrance. Lat. 51° 18' 19" N., long. 1° 25' 6" E. Details.-The black can buoy has been withdrawn from the above position.

SPITHEAD APPROACH.-NAB TOWER.-INTENDED ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHT.

Date of Alteration.-On or about the 27th April, 1921. Position.-Lat. 50° 40' N., long. 0° 57' W. (approx.) . Details.-The two fixed red (vertical) lights will be replaced by a flashing white light every ten seconds, thus: Flash 1 sec., eclipse 9 secs. Remarks.-The light will have a visibility of about 16 miles, and a power of about 12,000 candles. Note.-Further notice will be given.

ENGLISH CHANNEL.

LIZARD HEAD.-CAUTION WITH REGARD TO SURVEYING OPERATIONS SOUTH-WESTWARD OF.

Date of Commencement.-On the 18th April, 1921. Position.-Lat. 49° 50' N., long. 5° 21' W. Caution.-From the above date until further notice H.M. surveying vessel “Beaufort” will be engaged in surveying operations in the above vicinity south-westward of Lizard Head. H.M.S. “Beaufort” may be distinguished by a white hull with yellow funnel and two masts. Furthermore, floating beacons surmounted by staffs and parti-coloured flags will be moored within a distance of 5 miles, on a line running 70° and 250°, from the above position.

At night a fixed white light visible 3 miles will be exhibited from each of these beacons, but the lights cannot be entirely relied upon. Remarks.-Further notice will be given when the survey has been completed and the beacons have been removed.

ATLANTIC OCEAN.

AZORES.-TERCEIRA.-BREAKERS REPORTED SOUTH-EASTWARD OF. Position.-At a distance of about 30 miles south-eastward from Contiendas Point. Lat. 38° 16' N., long. 26° 39' W. Details.-The Netherlands s.s. "Barendrecht" reports having passed a small patch of discoloured water marked by breakers in the above position. Note.-This position is to be encircled on the charts by a danger line and marked “Reported (1921) Breaks.”

BRAZIL.

EAST COAST.-RIO DE JANEIRO HARBOUR ENTRANCE.-CALHABOUÇO POINT.-NEW LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.-On Calhabouço Point, the eastern extreme of the City of Rio de Janeiro. Lat. 22° 54' S., long. 43° 10' W. (approx.). Abridged Description.-Lt. fl. ev. 3 secs., 25 ft. (U). Details.-The fixed red and green light has been discontinued, and is replaced by a new light having the under-mentioned characteristics :- Character.-Flashing white every three seconds, thus: Flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs. Elevation.-25 ft. (7·6 m.). Visibility.-Not stated. Structure.-A black iron standard. Remarks.-The light is unwatched. Note.-The former light on this point is to be expunged from the small-scale Chart No. 530, and the new light is not to be shown.
