Oct. 28.] THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

  1. Clause 2 of the regulations is hereby further amended by the addition of the following subclause:

“ (5.) Any uncertificated teacher other than a relieving teacher who, as a result of a classification according to efficiency made at such time and in such manner as the Minister may determine, is shown to possess special merit may be paid by way of addition to the salary payable under clause 1 of the regulations, as amended by this Order, an amount not exceeding £30 per annum.”

  1. (1.) Schedule VI of the regulations is hereby revoked, and the following substituted therefor:

SCHEDULE VI.—ADDITIONAL AMOUNTS PAYABLE BY WAY OF SALARY TO CERTAIN TEACHERS.

Teacher to whom payable. Annual Amount.
(i.) To a married assistant teacher, subject to the limitations in subclause (2) hereof 40
(ii.) To an uncertificated teacher who has been a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, subject to the limitations in subclause (3) hereof 20
(iii.) To the head teacher of a district high school, if the yearly average attendance of the secondary department does not exceed sixty 30
(iv.) To the head teacher of a district high school, if the yearly average attendance of the secondary department exceeds sixty 50

(2.) Subclause (3) of clause 3 of the regulations is hereby amended (a) by deleting from paragraph (i) the words “paragraph (iv),” and substituting the words “paragraph (ii)” ; and (b) by revoking paragraph (ii) thereof.

(3.) Subclause (4) of clause 3 of the regulations is hereby revoked.

  1. Clause 4 of the regulations is hereby revoked.

  2. Clause 6 of the regulations is hereby revoked, and the following substituted :

“ 6. An assistant added to the staff in accordance with clause 44 hereof shall, in the case of an assistant teacher of a special class, be paid a salary not exceeding Grade 3, and in the case of an assistant teacher of a model school a salary not exceeding Grade 4, together with such additions to salary as are otherwise provided under the regulations.”

  1. Clause 7 of the regulations is hereby amended (a) by substituting in subclause (1) “£15” for “£12”; (b) by inserting in subclause (2), after the words “shall be the average attendance,” the words “for the current quarter or”; and (c) by deleting from subclause (2) the words “or the mean of the average attendance for the four quarters immediately preceding,” and also the proviso thereto.

  2. Clause 12 of the regulations is hereby amended by adding the following proviso to subclause (1) thereof:

“Provided that if a teacher is transferred to a position to which is attached a higher grade of salary under clause 1 of the regulations as amended by this Order, the total salary payable under clauses 1 and 2 of the regulations as amended by this Order shall in no case be lower than that received by him immediately prior to such transfer.”

  1. Clause 13 of the regulations is hereby amended by adding the following provisos:

“Provided that any teacher employed in a public school of Grade I, II, IIIA, or IIIB on 31st January, 1921, shall, if he remains in the same position, receive as from 1st February, 1921, a further increment of £10, unless such increment would make his salary higher than the maximum of the grade of salary for his position as specified in clause 1 of the regulations as amended by this Order:

“Provided further that the salary payable as from 1st February, 1921, to any teacher employed in a public school shall be made at least equal to the minimum of the grade of salary for the position as specified in clause 1 of the regulations as amended by this Order.”

  1. Clause 15 of the regulations is hereby amended by deleting from the first proviso to subclause (1) the words “for a period of two years after such reduction or,” and also the words “whichever period is the longer.”

  2. Clause 19 of the regulations is hereby revoked.

  3. Clause 11 of these regulations shall operate from 1st November, 1920.
