III.—GRADING OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

  1. Clause 20 of the regulations is hereby amended by deleting all the
    words after "clause 1 hereof."

  2. Clause 22 of the regulations is hereby amended by substituting the
    words "twelve," "eleven," and "ten" for the words "thirteen," "twelve,"
    and "eleven" respectively. This clause shall operate from 1st January,

IV.—STAFFING OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

  1. Clause 32 of the regulations is hereby amended by revoking sub-
    section (2) thereof.

  2. (1.) Table A to clause 33 of the regulations is amended by omitting
    all the words and figures after the line commencing "361-400," and adding
    the words "and so on, adding 40 for each subgrade above Subgrade VD."
    (2.) Table C of clause 33 is amended by omitting all the words and
    figures after the line commencing "361-400," and adding "and so on,
    adding 40 for each subgrade above Subgrade VD."

  3. Clause 38 of the regulations is hereby amended by inserting, after
    the words "an assistant may," the words "with the approval of the Minister
    previously obtained."

  4. Clause 41 of the regulations is hereby amended (a) by inserting,
    after the word "service," the words "as an adult teacher"; and (b) by
    inserting, after the word "appointed," the words "for a period not exceed-
    ing two years."

  5. Clause 42 of the regulations is hereby revoked.

  6. Clause 43 of the regulations is hereby amended by omitting the
    words "not exceeding three months"; and by inserting, after the words
    "payable to the staff exceeds," the words "by more than the amount of
    the salary of an assistant of Grade 1."

  7. Clause 44 of the regulations is hereby amended by omitting the
    word "backward"; and by inserting the word "special" after the words
    "if a," and the words "under section 56 of the Act" before the words "in
    connection with any public school."

  8. Clause 47 of the regulations is hereby amended---(1) By inserting,
    after the words "at least," the words "two of the first four and"; (2)
    by adding the following proviso: "Provided that where the staffing of any
    such school is not at the date of this Order in accordance with this regula-
    tion as amended, the Board shall take the earliest opportunity by transfer
    or otherwise to bring the staff into conformity therewith."

  9. Clause 48 is hereby amended by revoking subclause (1) thereof, and
    substituting therefor the following:---
    "(1.) The number of assistants employed in the infant department of
    any school, and the grades of salaries of such assistants (as provided by
    clause 1 and Schedule I hereof), shall be at least those set forth in the
    following Schedule VII:
    "Provided that if the assistants who are receiving the grades of salaries
    named in this Schedule are not employed in the infant department at the
    date of this Order, the Board shall take the earliest opportunity, by transfer
    or otherwise, to bring the staff into conformity with the Schedule.
    "Provided further that, if the circumstances warrant, one of the as-
    sistants thus allotted to the infant department, other than the infant
    mistress, may, with the approval of the Senior Inspector, be employed
    wholly or partly in any of the standard classes.

"SCHEDULE VII.—STAFFS OF INFANT DEPARTMENTS.
