Wednesday, the 14th day of July, 1920, on the proposal of the Whakatane Borough Council to borrow £6,500 to supplement the cost of its proposed electric-power plant, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 83, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 11.

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice respecting Proposed Drainage District, Waitomo Valley, County of Waitomo.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General, under the Land Drainage Act, 1908, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be constituted a drainage district under Part I of the said Act, by name the Drainage District of Waitomo Valley. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the constitution of the said drainage district which they desire to lodge, within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF BOUNDARIES OF PROPOSED DRAINAGE DISTRICT OF WAITOMO VALLEY.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the Waipa River in Block IV, Orahiri Survey District, being the northernmost corner of Otorohanga Q 2c Block, and proceeding thence up the Waipa River to a point due north of the junction of the Otorohanga-Pirongia Road with the Waitomo Valley Road; thence along a right line to that junction and south-westerly along the Waitomo Valley Road to the northern boundary of Section 2A, Block VIII, Orahiri Survey District; thence easterly along that northern boundary for a distance of twenty-five chains, more or less, from the eastern side of the Waitomo Valley Road; thence south-easterly along a right line to the north-eastern corner of Section 5A, Block VIII, Orahiri Survey District, along the northern boundary of the said Section 5A to the Haurua Road, and southerly along that road and the Waihohonu Road to the south-western corner of Section 18, Block VII, Orahiri Survey District; thence south-easterly along a right line to the northernmost corner of Haututu East 1E 5C 2A 2 Block, and along the north-western boundary of that block along a right line to the northernmost corner of Haututu East 1E 5C 2B 4, and along the north-western boundaries of that block and Haututu East 1E 5C 2B 5 to the north-western boundary of a scenic reserve; thence south-westerly along that boundary to the Hangatiki-Waitomo Road, and along that road to the north-western boundary of an accommodation reserve; thence northerly along that boundary and the eastern and northern boundaries of a scenic reserve to the south-eastern boundary of Haututu East B 2 A 2 Block; thence northerly along the said boundary to the north-eastern corner of the said block, and along a right line to the southernmost corner of Haututu B 2 No. 2B 2, along the south-eastern boundary of that block and the south-western, south-eastern, and north-eastern boundaries of Section 22, Block VII, Orahiri Survey District, to the northernmost corner; thence along a right line to the westernmost corner of Section 6, Block VII, and along the north-western boundaries of Sections 6 and 5, Block VII, to the northernmost corner of Section 5; thence along a right line to the westernmost corner of Section 12, Block IV, along the north-western boundary of that section to a public road; thence northerly along that road and south-easterly along a public road to the south-western corner of Otorohanga Q 2c Block, and northerly along the north-western boundary of that block to the Waipa River, the point of commencement.

Plant declared to be a Noxious Weed by the Hawke’s Bay County Council.—Notice No. 2025.

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that the Hawke’s Bay County Council has, by special order, declared prickly pear (Opuntia, any species) to be a noxious weed within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction.
