Cargoes ex Enemy Vessels seized by Portugal.

IT is hereby notified for, public information, that the New Zealand Government has been advised that the Portuguese Government has decided to sell by public auction goods which were found on board ex-German ships requisitioned by that Government, and which are still deposited within the judicial districts of the Customhouses in Portugal.
If any person in New Zealand interested in any such goods desires further particulars respecting such sales, he should make immediate application to the Comptroller of Customs, Wellington.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Grocers, (2) Drapers, (3) Clothiers, (4) Milliners, (5) Jewellers, (6) Tailors, (7) Stationers, (8) Boot-sellers, (9) Furnishers, (10) Iron-mongers, and (11) Hardware Shops in the Borough of Wai-pukurau, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of grocers, drapers, clothiers, milliners, jewellers, tailors, stationers, boot-sellers, furnishers, ironmonger, and hardware in the Borough of Waipukurau, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays at 8 p.m., with the following exceptions :-
(1.) On the working-day first preceding any of the special days mentioned in or coming within the meaning of section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, the closing-hour shall be 8 p.m.;
(2.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 18 of the above-mentioned Act, any day other than Saturday as the statutory closing-day, the closing-hour on Saturday for that shop shall be the closing-hour fixed as above for the day on which he observes the statutory closing-day;
(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe as the statutory closing-day in any week any of the special days mentioned in or coming within the meaning of section 19 of the above-mentioned Act, other than the day usually observed by him as the statutory closing-day, he may keep his shop open on such latter day until the hour of closing for his shop fixed by this notice for the day on which the holiday is observed:
And whereas the Waipukurau Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of grocers, drapers, clothiers, milliners, jewellers, tailors, stationers, boot-sellers, furnishers, ironmongers, and hardware within the Borough of Waipukurau :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of August, 1920, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) grocer, (2) draper, (3) clothier, (4) milliner, (5) jeweller, (6) tailor, (7) stationer, (8) bootseller, (9) furnisher, (10) ironmonger, and (11) hardware dealer within the Borough of Waipukurau shall be closed accordingly.
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 8th February, 1912, fixing the closing-hours of all the shops excepting hairdressers, tobacconists, fruiterers, confectioners, and restaurant-proprietors in the Town District of Wai-pukurau, is superseded in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers' and (2) Tobacconists' Shops in the City of Nelson, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the City of Nelson, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions :-
(1.) On the working-day first preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day first preceding New Year's Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour ;
(2.) On the working-day first preceding Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.;
(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then
and in such case the closing-hour on Wednesdays for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., and the closing-hour on Fridays for any such shop shall be 9 p.m. ;
(4.) Subject to exception (1) hereof, should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any day other than Wednesday as the statutory closing-day in any week, the closing-hour on Wednesday in that week for any such shop shall be 6 p.m., and should any such occupier so observe Saturday as the statutory closing-day in any week, the closing-hour on Friday in that week for any such shop shall be 9 p.m. :
And whereas the Nelson City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hair-dresser and (2) tobacconist within the City of Nelson:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 9th day of August, 1920, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hair-dresser and (2) tobacconist in the city of Nelson shall be closed accordingly.
The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th July, 1916, fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers' shops and tobacconists' shops in the City of Nelson, is hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice.
