THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Mount Eden, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Mount Eden held on 16th June, 1920, on a proposal to borrow a sum of £50,000—
(a.) For the construction and improvement of roads and streets in the borough now partially constructed and incomplete, and the formation and improvement of roads and streets therein not previously formed, and the provision of all plant and machinery required for such work: £48,250
(b.) For the laying-out and improvement of Potter’s Park: £1,750
the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 553, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 236; the number of informal votes was 4.
I have therefore to declare the proposal to be carried.

KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the County of Kiwitea was taken on the 16th day of June, 1920, on the proposal of the Kiwitea County Council to borrow the sum of £5,500 for the purpose of purchasing road machinery.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 349, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 72; informal, 3.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

UAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the County of Uawa taken on the 26th day of May, 1920, on the proposal of the Uawa County Council to borrow the sum of £104,455 for the formation, metalling, and tar-sealing roads; renewal and erection of bridges; purchase of roadmaking machinery and motor lorries; erection of offices, Engineer’s residence, and motor-shed; also buildings, cart, and plans for sanitary system, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 248, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 102.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Date of Election to fill Extraordinary Vacancy on Waitara Fire Board by Fire-insurance Companies.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, George James Anderson, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Thursday, the 15th July, 1920, to be the date for holding the election of one member of the Waitara Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill an extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. H. T. H. Grave.

Additional Regulation for Carriage of Deck Cargo.
WHEREAS by Warrant dated the 26th day of April, 1911, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 36, of the 4th day of May following, regulations were made governing the issue of licenses for the carriage of deck cargo and live-stock on the decks of vessels: And whereas it is desirable to make an additional regulation:
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Marine, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 223 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, do hereby make the following additional regulation.

REGULATION.
DIVISION A, CLASS II.—INTERCOLONIAL AND HOME-TRADE STEAMSHIPS CARRYING CARGO ONLY. (PAGE 11.)
Special Licenses, Class B.
- STEAMSHIPS with licenses of this class, when loaded with coal and/or timber, may be allowed, subject to the provisions of the General Regulations, to carry as deck cargo a quantity of timber up to not more than 17 per centum of the net registered tonnage of the ship.

ENGLAND.
SOUTH COAST.—ROYAL SOVEREIGN LIGHT-VESSEL.—OBSTRUCTION REPORTED NORTH-WESTWARD OF.
Position.—At a distance of about 2½ cables north-westward of the Royal Sovereign Light-vessel. Lat. 50° 42′ 48″ N., long. 0° 26′ 28″ E.
Description.—A submerged obstruction.
Note.—The above position is to be encircled by a danger-line on the charts, and marked with the note “Obstruction repd. (1920).”
NORTH SEA.—DOVER STRAIT.—LIGHT-BUOY DISAPPEARED.
Position.—Lat. 51° 31′ N., long. 2° 22′ E.
Description.—A light-buoy painted red, formerly exhibiting a group flashing white light.
Remarks.—The light-buoy has disappeared, and is to be expunged from the charts.

NEWFOUNDLAND.
SOUTH-EAST COAST.—CAUTION WITH REGARD TO CURRENT.
Mariners are warned that off the south-eastern coast of Newfoundland an indraught towards the bays on the south coast is frequently experienced.
The existing cautionary note westward of the Virgin Rocks on Charts Nos. 2666 and 232A is to be amended to read as follows:—
CAUTION.—The ordinary set of the current over the Great Bank and between it and Newfoundland is to the south-west, but north-easterly currents are by no means rare, and there is often an indraught towards the bays of the south coast. Vessels approaching in thick weather should take precautions accordingly. Attention is called to the Notes on Currents in the Sailing Directions.

CANADA.
NOVA SCOTIA.—HALIFAX APPROACH.—SAM BRO OUTER BANK.—AMENDED POSITION OF LIGHT-VESSEL AND CHARACTER OF LIGHTS.
Position.—At a distance of about 6 cables north-westward from charted position. Lat. 44° 20′ 25″ N., long. 63° 30′ 20″ W.
New Abridged Description of Lights.—2 lts. F., 60 ft., vis. 13 m.
Details.—The character of the lights exhibited from this light-vessel is fixed white, and not occulting white as shown on charts and in Admiralty publications.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.—VANCOUVER ISLAND, VICTORIA HARBOUR.—BERENS ISLAND LIGHT.—RED SECTOR DISCONTINUED.
Position.—Berens Island light, lat. 48° 25½′ N., long. 123° 23½′ W.
Details.—The red sector formerly showing over Brotchey Ledge from 347° through north to 2° has been discontinued, and is to be expunged from the chart.
Remarks.—Berens Island light in line with the light on the outer end of Ogden Point breakwater bearing 2° clears the western extremity of Brotchey Ledge; this line is to be shown on the charts.
