PANAMA.

PANAMA CANAL.—NIGHT QUARANTINE SERVICE.

1. Vessels from ports not subject to a yellow-fever quarantine arriving before 10 p.m. at either entrance to the Panama Canal (i.e., passing breakwaters at Cristobal (Colon) Harbour or anchoring off seaward end of dredged channel to Balboa Harbour) will be boarded and inspected by the Quarantine Officer of the port, if quarantine inspection on the night of arrival is desired.

2. A charge of $40 for passenger vessels, and $20 for others, will be made against vessels availing themselves of quarantine inspection after sunset.

3. Vessels should give advance notice to Port Captain, through local agent or by W/T, of their desire for such inspection, stating as near as possible the probable time of their arrival.

4. Final disposition of vessels inspected after sunset may be deferred at the discretion of Quarantine Officer.

5. Vessels from ports subject to a yellow-fever quarantine will be inspected only by daylight.

WEST INDIES.

GRAND CAYMAN.—GUN BLUFF.—LIGHT DISCONTINUED.

Position.—Lat. 19° 18½′ N., long. 81° 6½′ W.

Description.—A fixed white light.

Remarks.—The above light has been permanently discontinued.

PUERTO RICO.—CAPE ROJO LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

Position.—Lat. 17° 56′ N., long. 67° 11½′ W.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. F. fl., ev. 10 secs., 121 ft., vis. 18 m.

Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from flashing white to fixed and flashing white, showing a flash of one and three-tenths seconds every ten seconds.

Remarks.—The power of the fixed light is 4,900 candles and the flashing light 43,000 candles.

BRAZIL.

SOUTH-EAST COAST.—RIVER SAO FRANCISCO (DO-SUL) ENTRANCE.—GRACAS ISLANDS.—AMENDMENTS TO CHART WITH REGARD TO SHOAL NORTH-WESTWARD OF.

Position.—Cape Joao Diaz, lat. 26° 10¼′ S., long. 48° 33¼′ W.

Details.—The accompanying reproductions of portions of Chart No. 550 show in red necessary amendments with regard to shoal north-westward of Gracas Islands.

PERU.

CALLAO.—CALLAO POINT.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position (approximate).—Near the ruined batteries on Callao Point, at a distance of 2·3 cables, 39° (N. 29° E. mag.), from the church near the end of the point. Lat. 12° 4½′ S., long. 77° 10½′ W.

Abridged Description.—Lt. F., red, 69 ft., vis. 8 m. (P.A.).

Characteristics:

Character.—A fixed red light.

Elevation.—69 ft.

Visibility.—8 miles.

Structure.—Concrete tower.

Variation.—10° E.

SANDWICH ISLANDS.

(1.) NIIHAW ISLAND.—EXISTENCE OF ROCKS AND FOUL GROUND NORTHWARD OF.

(a.) Position.—At a distance of about 2 miles northward of Puuwai Point. Lat. 21° 57′ 30″ N., long. 160° 12′ W.

Description.—A rock with a depth of less than 6 ft.

(b.) Position.—At a distance of one mile northward from the northern extremity of Lehua Island. Lat. 22° 2′ 30″ N., long. 160° 6′ 15″ W.

Description.—A rock with a depth of less than 6 ft.

Remarks.—Foul ground exists off the north-west coast of Niihaw Island, between the two rocks described above.

Note.—The note “Foul Ground” is to be inserted on the chart in the vicinity.

(2.) KAUAİ ISLAND, NORTH-EAST COAST.—EXISTENCE OF ROCK.

Position.—At a distance of about 1½ miles northward from Kahala Point Lighthouse. Lat. 22° 9′ 45″ N., long. 159° 18′ W.

Description.—A rock with a depth of less than 6 ft.

(3.) MAUI ISLAND, SOUTH COAST.—EXISTENCE OF ROCK.

Position.—At a distance of about 2¼ miles south-eastward from Cape Hanamanioa Lighthouse. Lat. 20° 33′ 35″ N., long. 156° 22′ 30″ W.

Description.—A rock with a depth of less than 6 ft.

NEW GUINEA.

NORTH-EAST COAST.—UMBOI (ROOKE ISLAND).—SHOAL REPORTED NORTH-WESTWARD OF.

Position (approximate).—At a distance of 5 miles, 306° (N. 59° W. mag.), from Cape King. Lat. 5° 26′ S., long. 147° 44½′ E.

Depth.—Not stated.

Note.—The shoal is to be indicated on the charts by the symbol for a rock with a depth of less than 6 ft. and marked “P.A.”

Variation.—5° E.

BORNEO.

WEST COAST.—GREIG SHOALS.—SHOAL NORTH-WESTWARD OF, TO BE INSERTED ON CHART NO. 2160.

Position.—At a distance of about 28 miles north-westward of Greig Shoals. Lat. 0° 35′ 30″ S., long. 108° 12′ E.

Depth.—3¼ fathoms.

Note.—The shoal is to be marked on the chart with the note “Repd. (1919).”

Remarks.—This shoal is already shown on Charts Nos. 941A, 2660A, 1263, and 748B.

SOUTH COAST.—BARITO RIVER APPROACH.—BARITO LIGHT-VESSEL REPLACED BY NEW LIGHT-VESSEL.

Position.—At a distance of about 5¾ miles southward from Tanjong Burung. Lat. 3° 39′ S., long. 114° 30′ E.

Details.—Barito light-vessel, which had been damaged and sunk, has been replaced by a new light-vessel with similar characteristics — i.e., the light-vessel exhibits an occulting white light every twenty-five seconds, thus — light 15 secs., eclipse 10 secs. The light-boat with fixed white light, temporarily marking the position, has been withdrawn.

Note.—Vessels must pass to the westward of the above light-vessel.

AUSTRALIA.

SOUTH COAST.—PORT PHILLIP.

(1.) Snapper Point Light.—Correction of Charts.

Position.—Lat. 38° 13′ S., long. 145° 2′ E.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., 35 ft., vis. 10 m.

Correction.—This flashing white light is incorrectly described on some copies of the charts. The light is as given in the Admiralty List of Lights, 1920, and the charts affected are to be corrected accordingly.

Remarks. — This light is to be expunged from Chart No. 2759B.

(2.) Point Lonsdale Light.—Correction to Charts.

Position.—Lat. 38° 17½′ S., long. 144° 37′ E.

Correction.—The sectors of this light are incorrectly marked on some copies of the charts with the note, “White (or red) occulting light.” The light is a group flashing light with white and red sectors, and the word “occulting” is to be expunged.

MEDITERRANEAN.

SPAIN, EAST COAST.—PORT OF VALENCIA.—AMENDED POSITION OF LIGHT.

Position. — Near the junction between the Dique de la Providencia and the Dique del Norte, at a distance of 100 ft., 115° (S. 53° E. mag.), from former charted position. Lat. 39° 27′ N., long. 0° 19′ W.

Description.—A group flashing white light showing five flashes every twenty seconds.

Remarks.—This light is incorrectly described in the Admiralty List of Lights as showing a group of four flashes; the correction to be made to the List of Lights will be found in Section VIII of the weekly edition of Admiralty Notices to Mariners (week ending 1st April, 1920).

Variation.—12° W.

WEST COAST.—AROSA BAY.—SEIJO.—ALTERATION IN COLOUR OF LIGHT.

Position.—On the southern side of the entrance to Carril Bay. Lat. 42° 34′ 52″ N., long. 8° 50′ 30″ W.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (3), gn., ev. 10 secs., vis. 7 m.

Alteration.—The colour of this group flashing light has been altered from white to green.

MUROS BAY.—PUNTA QUEIXAL LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTERISTICS.

Position.—Lat. 42° 44¼′ N., long. 9° 43′ W.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. occ. (5), ev. 15 secs., 88 ft., vis. 9 m.

Details.—The fixed white light has been replaced by a light having the undermentioned characteristics:—

Character. — A group occulting white light, having five eclipses every fifteen seconds, thus—light 3½ secs., eclipse 1 sec. ; light 1 sec., eclipse 1 sec. ; light 1 sec., eclipse 1 sec. ; light 1 sec., eclipse 1 sec. ; light 3½ secs., eclipse 1 sec.

Remarks.—The light is obscured by Monte Louro between the bearings 81° (S. 83° E. mag.) and 180° (S. 16° W. mag.).

Note.—The other characteristics of the light remain unchanged.

Variation.—16° W.
