MARINERS and others are hereby notified that the Devonport Sandspit beacon has been repaired, and is showing, as before, a flashing red light.

Notice to Mariners No. 17 of 1920 is hereby cancelled.

WANGANUI ENTRANCE.—LIGHT ON SOUTH MOLE DESTROYED.

MARINERS are hereby warned that the fixed red light marking the extreme end of the South Mole has been washed away.

A temporary fixed light is now exhibited at a distance of about 40 ft. from the end of the mole.

BLUFF HARBOUR.—LIGHT-VESSEL ON CHANNEL ROCKS.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after the 11th June, 1920, an occulting white light showing approximately 5 seconds light and 3 seconds eclipse will be exhibited from a light-vessel moored on the north-eastern edge of the Channel Rocks.

Approximate position, 233° (S. 35½° W. mag.), distant 1·75 cables from the front beacon on Te Waewae Point.

MINE WARNING.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 30 of 1920, further warning is hereby given that the master of the schooner “Joseph Sims,” reports that on Saturday morning, 22nd May, in lat. 36° 36′ S. and long. 150° 24′ E., he sighted two big egg-shaped floating objects, black in colour, and apparently mines, quarter of a mile apart. The objects are about 4 ft. above water.

ENGLAND.

SOUTH-EAST COAST.—ELBOW LIGHT-BUOY.—INTENDED ALTERATION IN LIGHT.

Date of Alteration.—On or about 27th April, 1920.

Position.—At a distance of about 3½ miles eastward from North Foreland. Lat. 51° 22¼′ N., long. 1° 32¼′ E.

Alteration.—The occulting white light on this light-buoy will be replaced by a flashing white light every five seconds.

Note.—No further notice will be given.

SCOTLAND.

WEST COAST.—RATHLIN ISLAND.—RUE POINT.—LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL NOT TO BE DISCONTINUED.

(a.) Light.

Position.—At the southern extremity of Rue Point. Lat. 55° 15′ 36″ N., long. 6° 11′ 24″ W.

Abridged Description.—Lt. gp. fl. (2), ev. 5 secs., 36 ft., vis. 11 m. (U).

Characteristics :

Character.—A group flashing white light, showing two flashes every five seconds, thus—flash ¼ sec., eclipse 1 sec. ; flash ¼ sec., eclipse 3½ secs.

Elevation.—36 ft.

Visibility.—11 miles; the light is visible all round the horizon except where obscured by the land.

Power.—About 350 candles.

Structure.—Black steel trestle-work, 33 ft. in height.

Remarks.—The light is unwatched.

(b.) Fog-signal.

Description.—One explosive report every fifteen seconds.

Remarks.—Information has been received that it is not now intended to discontinue the above light and fog-signal, which are accordingly to be reinserted on the charts.

IRELAND.

NORTH-WEST COAST.—EAGLE ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE.—FOG-SIGNAL NOT TO BE DISCONTINUED.

Position.—Lat. 54° 26¾′ N., long. 10° 5½′ W.

Description.—An explosive signal, giving one report every two minutes.

Remarks.—Information has been received that it is not now intended to discontinue the above fog-signal, which is accordingly to be reinserted on the charts.

UNITED STATES.

ATLANTIC COAST.—VIRGINIA.—OREGON INLET.—SHOAL REPORTED NORTHWARD OF.

Position (approximate).—At a distance of about 5½ miles northward from Oregon Inlet. Lat. 35° 53′ N., long. 75° 31′ W.

Depth.—3¾ fathoms.

SOUTH CAROLINA.—CAPE ROMAIN.—EXISTENCE OF SHOALS SOUTH-EASTWARD OF.

(a.) Position.—At a distance of about 8½ miles south-eastward from Cape Romain Lighthouse. Lat. 32° 53′ 5″ N., long. 79° 19′ 5″ W.
