THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Council of the Borough of Hastings, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Result of Poll, £11,000.—Station Street Extension.
NOTICE is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hastings, including all other persons entitled to vote on proposals to raise loans, was duly taken on Friday, the 12th day of December, 1919, upon the following proposal:—
A proposal to borrow by way of special loan within the meaning of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and under authority of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, and its amendments (and under section 114 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1919), the sum of £11,000, to be expended for the following purposes:—
(1.) To purchase from Mrs. James Garnett Sections 210 and 211, fronting the railway-line and lying between Eastbourne Street and Lyndon Road (to enable the Council to carry out an arrangement made with William Frederick Knight and Francis John Knight to extend Station Street to a width less than 66 ft. from Heretaunga Street to Lyndon Road) .. .. .. £ 8,000
(2.) To provide for the construction-works of the said extension, and also of Eastbourne Street from Karamu Road to the railway crossing .. .. .. 2,285
(3.) Interest and sinking fund for the first year .. 715

The Council propose to pledge a special rate of 11/85ths of a penny in the pound on the rateable value, on the basis of the unimproved value, of all rateable property in the borough as security for the said loan and the interest thereon, and for a sinking fund of 1 per cent. The interest will be at a rate not exceeding 5½ per cent. per annum. It is proposed that the whole amount of the loan shall be repayable at the expiration of a term not exceeding 36½ years computed from the date of raising the said loan.
It is proposed to pay out of the loan the interest and sink-fund for the first year.
It is not proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the loan.
And at such poll the number of votes recorded was: For the proposal, 835; against the proposal, 237; informal votes, 9.
I do therefore hereby declare the said proposal carried.

WAIPAWA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Waipawa was taken on the 7th day of January, 1920, on the proposal of the Waipawa Borough Council to borrow the sum of £400 for the purpose of a public work—namely, the erection and equipment of a public morgue in the Borough of Waipawa.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 77, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 19; the number of informal votes was 1. Majority in favour of the proposal, 58.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
