Elevation, from 250 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. The soil is of fair clay, on limestone in places, also cement. The forest was heavy mixed bush comprising rimu, totara, taraire, kauri, &c., with a heavy undergrowth of punga, nikau, and supplejack. Well watered by Mangatete and several small streams. Approximately 147 acres of undulating to broken land, half the area being worked-out mixed bush, and balance manuka and fern. Distant from Kaingaroa two miles by partly formed road.
Bay of Islands County.—Ruapekapeka Survey District.
Sections 114A and 115; Area, 342 acres 1 rood 15 perches; capital value, £250; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £12 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £5 12s. 6d.
Altitude, 400 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land, chiefly fern and scrub, with patches of ordinary mixed forest in gullies; these patches include a few kauri trees too scattered to be marketable. Soil of medium second-class quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about seven miles from Kawakawa Railway-station by formed cart-road.
Bay of Islands County.—Russell Survey District.
Section 4, Block XIV: Area, 409 acres; capital value, £210; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £10 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £4 14s. 6d.
Altitude, 40 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken country. About 15 to 20 acres of light mixed forest, balance fern and manuka. Soil clay and poor pipe-clay; well watered by streams. Distant about five miles from Taumarere by formed road.
Hobson County.—Te Kuri Survey District.
Section 4, Block I: Area, 116 acres 2 roods; capital value, £120; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £6; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 14s.
Weighted with £14, valuation for old kauri house in poor repair and 2 acres grass.
Altitude, 300 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Practically all level fern and manuka land. Clay soil of poor quality (gum land), on sandstone formation; no water on section. Distant five miles from Tikinui Landing, three miles of which is by cart-road, balance by track.
Hobson County.—Tutamoe Survey District.
Section 5, Block X: Area, 428 acres; capital value, £400; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £20; half-yearly rent on lease, £9.
Weighted with £51, valuation for 44 chains fencing.
Altitude, 1,200 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Half undulating, half broken country; an area of 29 acres has been felled and grassed, but has now gone back to scrub; balance heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, towai, taraire, &c. Clay and semi-volcanic soil, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant eleven miles from Kaihu Railway-station, four miles of which is by cart-road, balance by track in bad repair. This track was originally formed as a cart-road, but has been badly damaged by floods.
Section 2, Block XVI: Area, 478 acres; capital value, £1,000; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £50; half-yearly rent on lease, £20 10s.
Elevation from 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. The soil is of clay, fair quality on half; other half poor, mostly pipe-clay. The forest is light, comprising taraire mostly, nikau, punga, few rimu, probably 100,000 kahikatea (unmarketable), with a light undergrowth of fern, nikau, &c. Badly watered, no streams in very dry summer. About 25 acres flat along banks of Kaiara Creek, 5 acres pipeclay flat, balance hilly (part broken, one-third). About 150 acres fern and tea-tree scrub; about 70 acres rough grass, kauri workings; balance bush. Distant from Taita Railway-station six miles and a half—by cart-road two miles, thence by 6 ft. track three miles, thence by surveyed road, not formed, one mile and a half.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Waitemata County.—Waipareira Parish.
Section 211: Area, 19 acres 3 roods; capital value, £180; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £9; half-yearly rent on lease, £4 1s.
Altitude, 40 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Undulating country, covered with light tea-tree and fern, three parts ploughable. Soil is fair to good quality, on clay formation; fairly well watered by swamp creek. Distant about two miles and a half from Swanson Railway-station by good cart-road.
Section 212: Area, 16 acres 3 roods 34 perches; capital value, £170; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £8 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £3 16s. 6d.
Altitude, 100 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with small tea-tree and fern, mostly all ploughable. Soil is of fair to medium quality, on clay formation; poorly watered. Distant about two miles from Swanson Railway-station by good formed road.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Hokianga County.—Waoku Survey District.
Section 3, Block XII: Area, 189 acres; capital value, £130; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £6 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £2 18s. 6d.
Altitude, 500 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to steep and broken country, covered with light to heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, towai, rata, taraire, &c., with heavy undergrowth of nikau, punga, kiekie, supplejack, &c. Clay soil of fair quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Distant about twelve miles from Taheke by formed wagon-road.
Section 16, Block XVI: Area, 200 acres; capital value, £160; annual instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £8; half-yearly rent on lease, £3 12s.
Altitude, 750 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating and hilly land, about 11 acres was felled and burnt some years ago but not sown, balance heavy mixed forest, comprising rimu, rata, miro, hinau, pukatea, tawa, taraire, &c., with thick undergrowth of makomako, kohutuhutu, hange-hange, karamu, kiekie, punga, supplejack, toikiwi, &c. Soil sandy clay and clay loam, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant eleven miles from Waimamaku, six miles of which is by cart-road, balance formed bridle-track.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 7th June, 1920.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Wednesday, 9th June, 1920, at 10 o’clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
