Section 6, Block XV: Area, 290 acres 2 roods; capital value, £860; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £43; half-yearly rent on lease, £19 7s.

Altitude, 150 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Rather broken land, covered with open to heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, tawa, tawhero, kohekohe, &c., with medium undergrowth of supplejack and scrub. Soil sandy loam, on sandstone formation; watered by streams. Distant fourteen miles from Kawhia by partly formed road, balance under construction. Access also by pack-track from Aotea Harbour up Makomako Stream.

Section 8, Block XV: Area, 833 acres 2 roods; capital value, £1,860; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £93; half-yearly rent on lease, £41 17s.

Altitude—Section 8, 250 ft. to 1,300 ft., Section 9, 1,200 ft. to 1,800 ft., above sea-level. Section 8 is fairly easy country along road frontage, to broken land towards Makomako Stream; Section 9 is fairly easy sloping country from main range to road. All covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, tawa, kohekohe, and tawhero on ridges, with thick undergrowth of supplejack, ferns, and shrubs. Light soil of fair quality on Section 8, patchy on Section 9, resting on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant eleven to twelve miles from Oparau by formed road, thence by three-quarters of a mile by pack-track.

Kawhia County.—Kawhia North Survey District.

Section 3, Block III: Area, 1,184 acres; capital value, £3,080; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £154; half-yearly rent on lease, £69 6s.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Broken country, covered with mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, &c., with dense undergrowth of nikau, supplejack, ferns, &c. Soil sandy loam, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant seven miles from Oparau by formed road.

Altitude, 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Hilly forest country, with small flats suitable for homestead-sites; forest is fairly heavy, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, tawhero, kohekohe, &c., with thick undergrowth of supplejack and scrub. Soil light sandy loam, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant eight miles from Oparau by formed road.

Soil generally of medium quality, rather poor on tawhero spurs, on sandstone formation; well watered by numerous streams. Section 3, Block IX, is distant twenty-three miles from Frankton Junction by formed bridle-road, remainder of sections distant three to four miles from last-mentioned section by pack-track along main range. This access will be improved shortly.

Kawhia County.—Pirongia Survey District.

Section 5, Block I: Area, 751 acres 2 roods; capital value, £1,120; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £56; half-yearly rent on lease, £25 4s.

Section 7, Block I: Area, 602 acres 2 roods; capital value, £900; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £45; half-yearly rent on lease, £20 5s.

Section 8, Block I: Area, 480 acres; capital value, £720; instalment on deferred payment (excluding interest), £36; half-yearly rent on lease, £16 4s.

Altitude, 700 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level. Broken country, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, tawa, and light tawhero on many of spurs, with dense undergrowth of supplejack, ferns, and small shrubs. Soil medium to poor in quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant eight to ten miles from Oparau by formed bridle-road.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS.

The lands are offered for selection subject to the following conditions:—

  1. The right is reserved to the Commissioner of Crown Lands to use existing tracks pending the opening of the surveyed roads.

  2. The right of taking gravel or stone for road-construction purposes from any streams passing through or bounding the sections, together with the right of access to such streams for the purpose of obtaining gravel or stone as aforesaid, is reserved in favour of the Crown and of the local body.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for sale or lease under the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 6th April, 1920.

The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred payments, or selected on lease for thirty-three years, with right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years and a right to acquire the freehold.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, 8th April, 1920, at 10 o’clock a.m.
