DESCRIPTIONS OF SECTIONS.
Section 1.—About 60 acres in tussock, all ploughable; watered by a spring and well. About three miles from Hawarden Railway-station by good road, except the last quarter of a mile, which is not yet formed.
Section 2.—About 80 acres in tussock, mostly ploughable; remainder level and well grassed; well watered. About two miles from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 3.—About 80 acres in tussock, remainder well grassed; about 50 acres level, parts somewhat broken; fairly well watered. About a mile and a half from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 4.—About 70 acres flat, swampy in places, remainder fairly steep slopes; about 60 acres in grass; fairly well watered. About one mile from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 5.—About 80 acres practically level, remainder undulating to steep; in grass and stubble; fairly well watered. Weighted with £625, valuation for six-roomed cottage, dairy, cow-shed, wool-shed and sheep-yard, and stable, which may be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £31 11s. 3d. There are on this section two sheds for removal to other sections. About one mile and a quarter from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 6.—About 24 acres level, remainder undulating to steep; well grassed, with exception of 13 acres in stubble; well watered. Weighted with £60, valuation for an iron shed at present on Section 5, which may be paid for in cash or out of advances. About one mile and a half from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 7.—All flat or undulating agricultural land; good soil, well grassed, well watered. About two miles from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 8.—Good flat agricultural land in grass and stubble. About two miles from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 9.—Good flat agricultural land; 35 acres in stubble, remainder well grassed; well watered. Weighted with £130, valuation for three-roomed cottage and pantry, which may be paid for in cash or by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £6 11s. 4d. or out of advances. One mile and a quarter from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 10.—Good agricultural land; 25 acres well grassed, remainder in stubble; well watered. Weighted with £45, valuation for a wooden shed with iron roof at present on Section 5, which may be paid for either in cash or out of advances. About one mile from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
Section 11.—Very good flat agricultural land, well grassed; watered by drain. About three-quarters of a mile from Hawarden Railway-station—thirty chains by good road, remainder by road to be formed shortly.
Section 12.—Very good flat agricultural land, well grassed; water may be obtained by sinking. About half a mile from Hawarden Railway-station—thirty chains by good road, remainder by road to be formed shortly.
Section 13.—Very good flat agricultural land, in grass and stubble; fairly well watered. About three-quarters of a mile from Hawarden Railway-station by good road.
IMPROVEMENTS.
The improvements which are included in the capital values of the sections are for boundary and subdivision fencing valued as follows: Section 1, 194 chains, £53; Section 2, 122 chains, £54; Section 3, 275 chains, £109; Section 4, 188 chains, £67; Section 5, 447 chains, £161; Section 6, 316 chains, £117; Section 7, 151 chains, £55; Section 8, 130 chains, £47; Section 9, 250 chains, £93; Section 10, 128 chains, £34; Section 11, 98 chains, £29; Section 12, 73 chains, £24; Section 13, 123 chains, £50.
There are also plantations on several sections, and windmills on Sections 1, 9, and 13.
There is a pumping plant on the Washpen Creek that supplies water for Sections 5 and 6, and to a lesser extent to Section 7, and also to the private property adjoining. The successful applicants for these sections will require to make their own arrangements (in conjunction with the adjoining owner) for the upkeep and working of this plant, subject to the approval of the Land Board.
The improvements which are not included in the capital values of the sections, but which have to be paid for separately, are as follows:—
Section 5.—Six-roomed cottage, dairy, cow-shed, wool-shed, sheep-yard, and stable, valued at £625.
Section 6.—Iron shed valued at £60 (to be removed from Section 5).
Section 9.—Three-roomed cottage and pantry, valued at £130.
Section 10.—Wooden shed with iron roof, valued at £45 (to be removed from Section 5).

Pastoral Run in Canterbury Land District for License to Discharged Soldiers.
District Lands and Survey Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral run is open for selection by discharged soldiers in terms of the Land Act, 1908, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and amendments; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 22nd March, 1920.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Wednesday, 24th March, 1920, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT. — THIRD - CLASS LAND.— NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.
Ashburton County.—Heron, Somers, and Alford Survey Districts.
RUN 115A (Clent Hills): Area, 30,100 acres; annual rent, £564.
About 8,000 acres flat and undulating, remainder very steep and broken hills. Altitude, 2,276 ft. to 7,248 ft. Well watered. Fair tussock feed on the lower slopes, but little or no vegetation on the high tops.
The improvements that go with the land comprise about thirty miles of boundary and subdivisional fences, and two huts, the total value of which is £1,273 9s. Access is by good road (which crosses the Ashburton River twice), twenty-three miles from Mount Somers Railway-station.
