FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913,
I hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Awhitu
Riding of Franklin County was taken on the 21st day of
February, 1920, on the proposal of the Franklin County
Council to borrow the sum of £10,000 for the purpose of con-
struction of roads in the Awhitu Riding of Franklin County
(including the payment of compensation for land required
to be taken for any deviation or deviations found to be neces-
sary on such roads, the purchase or hire of any horses, plant,
and machinery required to carry out such work, and such
other costs, charges, and expenses as the Franklin County
Council may determine to have been actually incurred in
connection with such work), the said sum of £10,000 to be
allocated for construction of roads in the various districts
throughout the riding as follows :—
(a.) Roads in late Awhitu Road District .. 4,420
(b.) Roads in Pollok Settlement Road District .. 1,190
(c.) Roads in No. 5 Subdivision of late Waipipi Road
District .. .. .. .. 1,920
(d.) Roads in No. 4 Subdivision of late Waipipi Road
District .. .. .. .. 2,470

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 150,
and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was
38 ; informal, 1.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Board of the Palmerston North - Kairanga River Dis-
trict, is published in accordance with the provisions of the
Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

PALMERSTON NORTH - KAIRANGA RIVER BOARD.
Loan Proposal.
In pursuance of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act,
1913, and a poll of ratepayers taken on the 21st day of
January, 1920, for the purpose of obtaining the consent of
the ratepayers to raise a loan of £7,000—viz., for the con-
struction of protective works at Fitzroy Bend and Ander-
son’s Bend, on the Manawatu River—the voting for the
proposal resulted as follows : For the proposal, 127 ; against
the proposal, 179.
I therefore declare the proposal rejected.

Notification of the Number of Valid Votes recorded in
respect of National Prohibition at the Licensing Poll
taken on the 17th Day of December, 1919, and of the
Result thereof.

Wellington, 3rd March, 1920.
IN pursuance of the provisions of section 16 of the
Licensing Amendment Act, 1910, as modified by section
58 of the Licensing Amendment Act, 1918, I, Joseph Gordon
Coates, Minister of Justice, do hereby notify that the total
number of valid votes recorded at the poll throughout New
Zealand, taken in accordance with Part II of the Licensing
Amendment Act, 1918, was 543,762.
And I do further notify that the total number of valid
votes recorded throughout New Zealand in respect of the
proposals submitted under section 56 of the Licensing
Amendment Act, 1918, was as under, viz. :—
For national continuance .. .. 241,251
For State purchase and control .. 32,261
For national prohibition .. .. 270,250
As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of
either of the proposals for State purchase and control or
for national prohibition without compensation does not
amount to more than one-half of all the valid votes recorded
at the poll, I hereby notify, under section 59 of the
Licensing Amendment Act, 1918, that the result of the poll
is that national continuance is deemed to have been carried.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks II, III, and IV,
Russell Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute
a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road
in Blocks II, III, and IV, Russell Survey District; and
for the purposes of such public work the land described
in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And
notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land
so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at
Manawaora, and is there open for inspection; and that all
persons affected by the execution of the said public work or
by the taking of the said land should, if they have any
well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public
work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in
writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the
first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public
Works at Wellington.
