Notice fixing Closing-hours of (1) Hairdressers and (2) Tobacconists’ Shops in the Borough of Gisborne, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Gisborne, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions:—
(1.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe (pursuant to section 11 (2) of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908) Saturday as the statutory closing-day, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursdays for any such shop shall be 5.30 p.m. and on Fridays 9 p.m. ;
(2.) On the working-day first preceding Christmas Day and on the working-day first preceding New Year’s Day there shall be no fixed closing-hour ;
(3.) Should the occupier of any shop affected by this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any of the special days therein mentioned other than Thursday as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour on Thursday for any such shop in that week shall be 5.30 p.m., and should such special day fall on Saturday, then and in such case the closing-hour on Friday for any such shop in that week shall be 9 p.m. :
And whereas the Gisborne Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist within the Borough of Gisborne :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 23rd day of December, 1920, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser and (2) tobacconist in the Borough of Gisborne shall be closed accordingly.
The notice gazetted on the 21st day of August, 1919, fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Gisborne is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of all the Fruiterers’ Shops in the Borough of Palmerston, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fruiterers’ shops in the Borough of Palmerston, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 11 p.m. :
And whereas the Palmerston Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the fruiterers’ shops within the Borough of Palmerston :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 17th day of December, 1920, all the fruiterers’ shops within the Borough of Palmerston shall be closed accordingly.

The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 28th October, 1920, fixing the closing-hours of all the shops in the Borough of Palmerston is hereby superseded, in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice, as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
Dated at Wellington this 14th day of December, 1920.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser, (2) tobacconist, and (3) stationer in the Borough of Palmerston, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10 p.m., and Saturdays at 11 p.m. :
And whereas the Palmerston Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser, (2) tobacconist, and (3) stationer within the Borough of Palmerston :
Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 17th day of December, 1920, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) hairdresser, (2) tobacconist, and (3) stationer in the Borough of Palmerston shall be closed accordingly.

Amending Rules for the Examination of Masters and Mates.

Marine and Inspection of Machinery Department,
Wellington, 14th December, 1920.

WHEREAS by warrant dated the 19th day of September, 1918, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 133, of the 26th day of the same month, rules were made for the examination of candidates for certificates of competency as masters and mates (hereinafter called “the said rules”) :
And whereas by warrant dated the 10th day of September, 1919, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 115, of the 18th day of the same month, rule 161 of the said rules was revoked and a new rule 161 was made in lieu thereof :
And whereas it is desirable to further amend the said rules by revoking rule 161 of the 10th day of September, 1919, and making a new rule in lieu thereof :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 23 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby revoke the said rule 161 of the 10th day of September, 1919, and do hereby make the following rule in lieu thereof, and do hereby order that it shall be embodied in and read with the rules governing the examination of masters and mates.

RULE.

  1. No person may be examined for a certificate of competency as master or mate unless he is a British subject by birth or by naturalization in New Zealand.

Amending the Regulations for the Examination of Engineers.

Marine and Inspection of Machinery Department,

WHEREAS by warrant dated the 10th day of September, 1919, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 115, of the 18th day of the same month, rules were made for the examination of engineers in the mercantile marine in regard to the nationality of candidates for examination: And whereas it is desirable to amend the said rules :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 23 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby revoke the said rules of the 10th day of September, 1919, and do make in lieu thereof the following rule for the examination of candidates for certificates of competency as engineers, and do hereby order
