PACIFIC COAST.—JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT.—PORT CRESCENT.—LIGHT DISCONTINUED.—LIGHT-AND-BELL BUOY ESTABLISHED.

  1. Light discontinued:

Position.—Lat. 48° 10′ N., long. 123° 44¾′ W.

Character.—A fixed red light.

Remarks.—This light is to be expunged from the charts.

  1. Light-and-bell buoy established:

Position.—At a distance of about half a mile northward from the western head of Crescent Bay, in the position formerly occupied by the bell-buoy, which has been withdrawn. Lat. 48° 10½′ N., long. 123° 44½′ W.

Description.—A light-and-bell buoy exhibiting a flashing white light every three seconds, thus—flash ¾ sec., eclipse 2¾ secs.

PACIFIC COAST.—STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—PUFFIN ISLET.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.—On the northern side of the islet. Lat. 48° 44′ 45″ N., long. 122° 49′ 15″ W.

Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., ev. 10 secs., 25 ft.

Characteristics:

Character.—A flashing white light every ten seconds, thus—flash 1 sec., eclipse 9 secs.

Elevation.—25 ft.

Visibility.—Not stated.

Power.—Under 100 candles.

Structure.—A small white house.

HARO STRAIT.—KELLETT BLUFF.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position (approximate).—On the south-western slope of Kellett Bluff, at a distance of half a cable, 216° (S. 12 W. mag.), from the centre of the 280 ft. summit. Lat. 48° 35′ 24″ N., long. 123° 11′ 57″ W., on Chart No. 2840.

Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., ev. 3 secs., 80 ft.

Characteristics:

Character.—A flashing white light every three seconds, thus—flash ¾ sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.

Elevation.—80 ft.

Visibility.—Not stated.

Power.—Under 100 candles.

Structure.—A small white house.

Variation.—24° E.

CHILE.

CONCHALI BAY, PENITENTE ROCK.—LIGHTHOUSE DESTROYED.

Position.—On Penitente Rock. Lat. 31° 52¾′ S., long. 71° 35′ W.

Remarks.—The lighthouse has been destroyed, and the note “Destroyed, 1919,” is to be inserted on the charts against this light.

JAPAN.

SHIMONOSEKI KAIKYO APPROACH.—SHIRASU LIGHT.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER.

Position.—Lat. 33° 59′ N., long. 130° 47¼′ W.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. occ., ev. 6 secs., vis. 12 m. (U).

Alteration.—The character of the light has been altered from fixed green to occulting white every six seconds, thus—light 3 secs., eclipse 3 secs.

Remarks.—The light is visible 12 miles.

CHINA.

EAST COAST.—HONG KONG.—WIRELESS TIME-SIGNALS ESTABLISHED.

Position.—Cape d’Aguilar, lat. 22° 12½′ N., long. 114° 15¾′ E.

Details.—Time-signals are given daily during the four minutes preceding 0 h. 00 m. 00 s. and 9 h. 00 m. 00 s. standard time (120th meridian), corresponding to 16 h. 00 m. 00 s. and to 1 h. 00 m. 00 s. Greenwich mean time respectively, in the following manner:—

The following preliminary signal is made from 23 h. 54 m. 00 s. to 23 h. 55 m. 00 s. and from 8 h. 54 m. 00 s. to 8 h. 55 m. 00 s. (standard time):—

“CQ DE VPS HK TIME WAIT”

Then from 23 h. 56 m. 00 s. to 0 h. 00 m. 00 s. and from 8 h. 56 m. 00 s. to 9 h. 00 m. 00 s. a dot of two-tenths of a second’s duration is made at every even second, with the exception of the 2nd, 28th, 50th, 52nd, and 54th seconds of each minute.

Remarks.—The wave-length used is 1,000 metres. Wireless stations on shore and ships within range of Cape d’Aguilar are to keep silent during the times stated above, in accordance with the Service Regulations appended to the “International Radio Telegraph Convention of 1912.”

Note.—This time-signal will be included in the next revision of Admiralty Notice to Mariners No. 1264 of 1919.

CHINA SEA.—PALAWAN ISLAND, EAST COAST.—CALVER POINT TO ISLAND BAY.—EXISTENCE OF SHOALS.

Position.—Calver Point, lat. 9° 21¾′ N., long. 118° 31½′ E.

Details.—A recent survey has revealed the existence of several shoals between Calver Point and Island Bay. The shoal reported in the year 1900 as being situated in lat. 9° 6′ N., long. 118° 34′ E., does not exist, and has therefore been omitted from the reproduction.

Note.—The name “Sand Island” has been changed to “Arena Island,” and “30th June Island” to “Sombrero Island.” See Chart No. 967.

SOUTH PACIFIC.

NEW BRITAIN.—SIMPSON HARBOUR.—LIGHT-BUOY WITHDRAWN.

Position.—Marking shoal eastward of Dawapia Rocks. Lat. 4° 14¼′ S., long. 152° 11½′ E.

Description.—A light-buoy formerly exhibiting a flashing white light.

Remarks.—The above light-buoy has been withdrawn, and is to be expunged from the charts.

SOLOMON ISLANDS.—BOUGAINVILLE STRAIT.—EXISTENCE OF A SHOAL.—BROKEN WATER REPORTED.

  1. Existence of a shoal:

Position.—At a distance of about 2¾ miles northward from summit of Munia Island. Lat. 6° 59′ 24″ S., long. 156° 1′ 15″ E.

Depth.—3 fathoms, sand and coral.

Remarks.—The foregoing depth encircled by a danger-line is to be inserted in the above position on the charts, together with a note “Other shoals reported in this vicinity (1919).”

  1. Broken water reported:

Position.—At a distance of about 3 miles south-westward from summit of Munia Island. Lat. 7° 3′ 30″ S., long. 155° 59′ 30″ E.

Remarks.—The above position is to be encircled by a danger-line and a note “Breakers reported (1919)” placed against it on the charts.

VICTORIA.

ALTERATION TO BUOYS, PORT PHILLIP BAY.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that, as a result of dredging operations within Port Phillip, the Portsea gas-buoy, South Channel, has been moved a distance of 300 ft. to the north-east.

In the West Channel, No. 5 black can buoy has been moved a distance of two (2) cables to the northward, and No 12 gas-buoy a distance of one and a half (1½) cables to the north-east.

STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR.

GIBRALTAR BAY.—LIGHT-BUOY WITHDRAWN.

Position.—Marking north-western corner of examination anchorage. Lat. 36° 7¾′ N., long. 5° 22¼′ W.

Description.—A conical light-buoy formerly exhibiting an occulting green light.
