THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Hydrographic Office, London, and the Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, are published for general information.

ENGLAND.

SOUTH-EAST COAST.—THE DOWNS.—EXISTENCE OF A WRECK.

Position.—At a distance of about 8½ cables south-westward from the Gull light-vessel. Lat. 51° 15′ 18″ N., long. 1° 27′ 39″ E.

Description.—Sunken wreck of the three-masted schooner “Toogo.”

Remarks.—A wreck-marking buoy has been established about 60 yards north-westward from the wreck.

A wreck-marking light-vessel, exhibiting the regulation black balls by day and white lights by night, will be established as soon as possible close eastward of the wreck; no further notice with regard to the establishment of this wreck-marking light-vessel will be given.

SOUTH COAST.—PLYMOUTH SOUND.—MOUNT BATTEN BREAKWATER.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER OF LIGHT.

Position.—Near extremity of Mount Batten Breakwater. Lat. 50° 21½′ N., long. 4° 8′ W.

New Abridged Description.—Lt. occ., ev. 5 secs.

Alteration.—The light has been altered from fixed white to occulting white every five seconds.

IRELAND.

SOUTH-WEST COAST.—BEREHAVEN.

(1.) Lonehort Point.—Light extinguished.

Position.—On Lonehort Point. Lat. 51° 38¾′ N., long. 9° 47′ W.

Details.—The occulting light with white, red, and green sectors has been extinguished.

Note.—A note “Extinguished (1919)” is to be placed against the above light on the charts.

(2.) Information with regard to Buoyage.

(a.) Torpedo range buoy withdrawn :

Position.—Lat. 51° 39′ N., long. 9° 49′ W.

Description.—A conical buoy.

Note.—The above buoy is to be expunged from the charts.

(b.) Alteration in colour of light-buoy :

Position.—Marking eastern side of George Rock.

Details.—The light-buoy is now painted red, instead of black and white as formerly.

CANADA.

GULF OF ST. LAWRENCE.—ANTICOSTI ISLAND, TABLE HEAD.—LIGHT AND FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.

(a.) Light :

Position.—On Table Head, lat. 49° 21′ 9″ N., long. 61° 54′ 33″ W., on Chart No. 305.

Abridged Description.—Lt. F. gp. fl. (2), ev. 20 secs., 112 ft., vis. 16 m.

Characteristics :

Character.—A fixed and group flashing white light showing two flashes every twenty seconds, thus—flash, interval 5 secs.; flash, interval 15 secs.

Elevation.—112 ft.

Visibility.—16 miles.

Power.—Fixed, 500 candles; flashes, 50,000 candles.

Structure.—A white octagonal concrete tower with red lantern.

Remarks.—For half the period of the light—i.e., 10 seconds—a fixed light will be visible through which the flashes will show, for the other half of the period the light will be totally eclipsed.

(b.) Fog-signal :

Description.—A horn giving two blasts of two-and-a-half seconds duration every seventy-five seconds, thus—blast 2½ secs., silent 5 secs.; blast 2½ secs., silent 65 secs.

Remarks.—The fog-signal station is a white rectangular wooden building, and the horn, which has an elevation of 72 ft., points in a north-easterly direction.
