on public service, or to or from the hotel or boardinghouse at which he is staying shall not be regarded as porterage, and may be allowed, provided that cab-hire is not charged for the same journey.

Vouchers for travelling-expenses must show full details of place, date, and time of arrival and departure, and state definitely nature of the duty on which the claimant was travelling. Receipts must be provided for all individual items of expenditure exceeding 5s. in amount. Motor-car hire will only be passed when it is the cheapest or only mode of conveyance and is authorized by the General Officer Commanding. In all cases the least expensive conveyance available must be employed, but if public transport is available it must be utilized.

Members of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service posted for temporary duty at any station outside their own headquarters, or when standing by transports or hospital ships and not quartered or rationed, shall be entitled to draw travelling-allowance for twenty-eight days. After the twenty-eighth day they will be entitled to subsistence allowance of 4s. per diem.

Officers, N.C.O.s, or men temporarily transferred for duty at any station outside their own headquarters shall be entitled to draw travelling-allowance for twenty-eight days only. After the twenty-eighth day lodging-allowance in lieu of the travelling-allowance shall be drawn at the undermentioned rates:—

This allowance will not be paid for a longer period than three months without the special authorization of the General Officer Commanding.
- (a.) The field and camp allowances for the Regular Army and New Zealand Permanent Force shall be as follows:—

(b.) Members of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service shall be paid the same field or camp allowances as officers of the New Zealand Permanent Force, and under the same conditions.

Beyond New Zealand field allowance will not be payable for the voyage to destination or return voyage to New Zealand. From the date of arrival at destination to the date of embarkation or return journey to New Zealand, field allowance will be issued for the whole period while abroad, irrespective of whether the recipients are inmates of hospitals or convalescent homes, the only exception being when in receipt of travelling-allowance.

(a.) Camp allowance in New Zealand is granted to officers and non-commissioned officers above the rank of sergeant for the upkeep of uniform, for mess equipment and maintenance, and in aid of the expenses caused by their being placed under canvas, or when, during mobilization, manœuvres, or military training, they are in bivouac or accommodated in war shelters, temporary hutments, or quarters equipped according to the scales for officers’ tents in standing camps, as laid down in the Equipment Regulations.
(b.) Camp allowance will be issued for each day or part of a day during which an officer or non-commissioned officer has been under canvas, &c. (see above), but will not be admissible concurrently with travelling-allowance, or during absence on leave. It will be issued in arrear.

Forage allowance will be paid to an officer, warrant officer, or non-commissioned officer when travelling on duty for which detailed (with his horse) at the rate of 1s. 6d. per feed, with a maximum of 4s. 6d. per diem, provided the distance travelled is not less than ten miles from his headquarters.

A messing-allowance of 2s. per diem, in addition to free rations, shall be allowed to officers of the Territorial Force when in camps of training or attending continuous courses of instruction, unless lodging or travelling allowances are drawn.
