THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Public School established at Mangaia, Cook Islands.

IN pursuance of the power and authority vested in me in that behalf by section 51 of the Cook Islands Act, 1915, I, Maui Pomare, the Minister for the Cook Islands, do hereby establish a school in the Island of Mangaia, Cook Islands, to be known as the Oneroa School, as a public school under the said Act.

As witness my hand this 21st day of October, 1919.

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), and its Amendments.

To the owners of the following lands—that is to say:—

  1. All that parcel of land, containing 1 acre, more or less, and being Lot 9 on the plan of Sections 145 and 146, Township of Wallaceville, Upper Hutt District, bounded on the north-west by Lot 51, 167 links; on the north-east by Lot 10, 600 links; on the south-east by main road, 167 links; and on the south-west by Lot 8, 600 links.
  2. All that parcel of land, containing 1 acre, more or less, and being Lot 12 on the plan of Sections 145 and 146, Township of Wallaceville, Upper Hutt District, bounded on the north-west by Lot 48, 167 links; on the north-east by Lot 13, 600 links; on the south-east by main road, 167 links; and on the south-west by Lot 11, 600 links.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries and has been unable to find the whereabouts of the owners of the above-described lands, or any agent or agents of such owners in New Zealand:

Now, the Public Trustee hereby calls upon such owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee their title to the said lands, and if they fail or neglect so to do the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II), and its amendments.

The Land and Income Tax (Annual) Act, 1919.—Land-tax Payable.

Land and Income Tax Office,
Wellington, 23rd October, 1919.

BY Order in Council, made and issued by His Excellency the Governor-General in Council on the 6th day of October, 1919, under the authority of the above Act, it was determined that the duty by way of land-tax leviable under the said Act should be paid in one sum on Friday, the 7th day of November, 1919, at the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Government Buildings, Wellington; and, in accordance with such Order in Council, I hereby give notice that the said duty will be payable accordingly.

Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or before 28th November, 1919. The liability to pay is not suspended by any objection. The tax should be paid on or before the prescribed date, otherwise the additional percentage accrues: any overpayment will be adjusted by refund. The demands will be posted from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about 31st October, 1919. Taxpayers who expect a demand and do not receive one should notify the Commissioner of the fact.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 75 of 1919.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.

THE master of the s.s. “Whangarata” reports having passed a large baulk of timber about 40 ft. long by 6 ft. girth on 28th September, 1919, on the run from Panama to Auckland, in latitude 31° 7′ S., longitude 141° 50′ W. This is a source of danger to navigation.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 76 of 1919.

WESTPORT HARBOUR.—DREDGING.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 18th October, 1919.

THE Westport Harbour Board have notified that dredging operations will be commenced on the Buller River by the bucket dredger “Erskine” on or about the 19th instant. The dredger will be working in the fairway up-river from upstream end of No. 5 berth crane-wharf.

She will be hauled out clear when any vessel or vessels are working to or from the wharf in the daytime, and on and after the 19th instant.

At night-time, in fair weather, she will remain at her moorings, about 300 ft. off the wharf.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 77 of 1919.

WANGANUI HARBOUR.—DREDGING.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 20th October, 1919.

THE Wanganui Harbour Board have notified that the dredge “Kaione” will now be dredging in the Wanganui River between the entrance and the Town Wharf, and masters of vessels are requested to slow down when passing the dredge, and to pass on the side where the signal is shown.

The signal to be shown will be, during the daytime, two black balls in a vertical line, one over the other, and 6 ft. apart; at night-time two red lights in a vertical line, one over the other, and 6 ft. apart.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 78 of 1919.

MANUKAU HARBOUR.—BAR CHANGES.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 21st October, 1919.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 31 of 1919, regarding the Manukau Bar, the Harbourmaster at Manukau notifies that from soundings taken on the 9th and 10th instant he finds that the north-west bank at the bar in the main channel now extends right across the white sector of the main channel light, with a depth of only 16 ft. at M.L.W.S. tide.

Masters of vessels are warned against working the bar at night-time, and when crossing the bar should watch for the signals from the semaphore station on the South Head.
