APPLICATION FOR LICENSE FOR AN EXTENSION OF WATER-RACE No. 408.

UNDER THE MINING ACT, 1908.

To the Warden of the Otago Mining District at Lawrence.
PURSUANT to the Mining Act, 1908, the undersigned, Patrick Treacy, the Younger, and Francis Treacy, of Evans Flat, Miner, hereby apply for a license for an extension of Water-race No. 408, as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.

Precise time of marking out privilege applied for: 3.45 p.m., 30/8/19.

Date and number of miner’s right: 21/6/19; 117975 and 117976.

Address for service: At the office of Stewart Fletcher, Solicitor, Lawrence.

Dated at Lawrence this 1st day of September, 1919.

Schedule.
Locality of the extension of the race and of its starting and terminal points: Commencing at a point in Water-race No. 408 at its present termination in Crown lands adjoining Section 14, Block XIX, Tuapeka East Survey District (the private lands of John Alexander Eady), about 9½ chains from the eastern boundary of said Section 14, thence these 9½ chains, thence through said Section 14 about 10 chains, thence through Crown lands to Section 45, Block XIX (private land of applicants), about half a mile, together with a strip of land 10 ft. wide on each side of extension.

Length and intended extension of course of race: 1 mile; S.W.
Point of intake: One at present termination.
Estimated time and cost of construction: 1 month; £90.
Mean depth and breadth: 4 ft. by 2 ft.
Number of heads to be diverted: Nineteen.
Purpose for which water is to be used: Mining.
Proposed term of license: To 21st September, 1945.

RESOLUTION.

THE following regulations were laid before the members of the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club at a meeting held on the 26th day of July, 1919, at Ashhurst, with a recommendation by the Chairman of the Club, Mr. Patrick Hanlon, that the same be passed at once with a view to their approval by the Governor-General, in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section 33.

Mr. Patrick Hanlon, the Chairman of the Club and the meeting, moved, and Mr. Denis McCarthy seconded, and it was resolved, that such regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof.

The following are the regulations referred to:—

ASHHURST-POHANGINA RACING CLUB.

REGULATIONS.

(Under the Gaming Act, 1908.)

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section 33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf, the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as "the said club"), doth hereby revoke the regulations dated the 15th day of July, 1916, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of the racecourse on part Section 463, Block III, Gorge S.D., situated in the District of Ashhurst, Oroua County, and known as the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings.

  1. These regulations shall come into force on the date of the same being published in the New Zealand Gazette.

  2. In these regulations the words "bookmaker," "racing club," and "race meeting" shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms respectively by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908.

  3. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely,—
    (a.) Bookmakers.
    (b.) Bookmakers' clerks, bookmakers' assistants, and bookmakers' agents.
    (c.) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racing or trotting club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere, if affiliated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, or the New Zealand Trotting Association, or the New Zealand Trotting Conference.
    (d.) Common prostitutes, and persons who habitually consort with thieves or with persons who have no lawful visible means of support.
    (e.) Professional tipsters, persons convicted of house-breaking or pocket-picking, forgery, uttering or possessing counterfeit coin, theft, false pretences, receiving stolen goods, mischief, assault, or any offence or crime of any kind under the Crimes Act, 1908, and also idle and disorderly persons, rogues and vagabonds, and incorrigible rogues convicted under the Police Offences Act, 1908, and persons convicted of an offence under the Gaming Act, 1908.

The foregoing regulations of the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club were made and passed by the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club on the 26th day of July, 1919, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary.

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

SPECIAL RESOLUTION.—MADE ON FIFTEENTH DAY OF AUGUST, 1919.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, the Cook County Council hereby resolves as follows:—

That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £3,000, authorized to be raised by the Cook County Council, under the above-mentioned Act, for constructing the Makarori-Pouawa Road, the said Cook County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of two-sevenths of a penny in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property of the Pouawa Special Rating District, comprising Lot 1, Waimata East No. 3 and part 3, No. 2A, 2B, 2B X, Waimata South, Block IX, Whangara S.D.; Section 1, Block XIII, Whangara S.D.; part Section 1, Block XIV, Whangara S.D.; Sections 18/23 Pouawa B, Lots 1/10 Pouawa B and 1, Block XIII, Whangara S.D.; parts Pouawa 1, 1 and part Pouawa 2H 2, 2H 3, 2H 1A, 2H 1B, 2F, 3D 1/13, 3A, 3B, 3C, Blocks XIII and XIV, Whangara S.D.; part 2 Pouawa 1, Pouawa 4, 5, Block IVA, Turanganui S.D.; Lots 1/4 of 6, 1/6 of 7, 8, 9, 1 of 2, Pouawa No. 1, Blocks IV and IVA, Turanganui S.D. And that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the first day of July in each and every year during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of thirty-six and a half years, or until the loan is fully paid off. The rate of interest to be four and a half per cent.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Cook was hereto affixed in the presence of—
