EAST VERNON ISLAND.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED SOUTHWARD OF.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that—
(1.) The light-buoy showing a flashing white light is now permanently established.
(2.) The light-buoy is established in a position southward of East Vernon Island instead of off the extremity of the Spit on the south-western end, as formerly notified.

Position.—The light-buoy is moored in 16 fathoms of water, about 4 cables southward of the middle of East Vernon Island. Lat. 12° 5′ S., long. 131° 5¾′ E., on Chart No. 1095.

Description.—A cylindrical light-buoy with framework superstructure, 15 ft. high, painted red and numbered “4,” exhibiting a flashing white light showing one flash every six seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 5½ secs.

Elevation.—12 ft.

Power.—1,300 candles.

Visibility.—8 miles.

Note.—The position of this buoy cannot be absolutely depended on, because it is liable to drift in the strong tidal currents experienced in this locality.

ROOPER ROCK.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the light-buoy showing a group flashing white light is now permanently established.

Position.—The light-buoy is moored in 11 fathoms of water at a distance of about ¾-mile east-south-east of Rooper Rock. Lat. 12° 4½′ S., long. 131° 11½′ E., on Chart No. 1095.

Description.—A cylindrical light-buoy with framework superstructure, 15 ft. high, painted red and numbered “3,” exhibiting a group flashing white light, showing two flashes in quick succession every fifteen seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 13 secs

Elevation.—12 ft.

Power.—1,300 candles.

Visibility.—8 miles.

Note.—The position of this buoy cannot be absolutely depended on, because it is liable to drift in the strong tidal currents experienced in this locality.

VAN DIEMEN GULF.—HOWARD KNOLL.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the light-buoy showing a group flashing red light is now permanently established.

Position.—The light-buoy is moored in 11 fathoms of water at a distance of about 1 mile north-north-east of Howard Knoll. Lat. 11° 59¾′ S., long. 131° 18¾′ E., on Chart No. 1095.

Description.—A cylindrical light-buoy with framework superstructure, 15 ft. high, painted black and numbered “2,” exhibiting a group flashing red light showing three flashes in quick succession every twenty-two and a half seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 19 secs.

Elevation.—12 ft.

Power.—600 candles.

Visibility.—8 miles.

CAPE KEITH.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED SOUTH-EASTWARD OF

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the light-buoy showing a group flashing white light is now permanently established.

Position.—The light-buoy is moored in 14 fathoms of water at a distance of about 14 miles south-eastward of Cape Keith. Lat. 11° 46′ S., long. 131° 36′ E., on Chart No. 613.

Description.—A cylindrical light-buoy with framework superstructure, 15 ft. high, painted red and numbered “1,” exhibiting a group flashing white light showing four flashes in quick succession every thirty seconds, thus—flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 25 secs.

Elevation.—12 ft.

Power.—1,300 candles.

Visibility.—8 miles.

TORRES STRAIT, WESTERN APPROACH.—ESTABLISHMENT OF LIGHT-VESSEL POSTPONED.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the proposed establishment of a light-vessel in the western approach to Torres Strait (Merkara Shoal) is postponed until further notice.

ENGLAND.

SOUTH-EAST COAST.—DOVER STRAIT.—LIGHT-VESSEL ESTABLISHED.

Position.—Lat. 51° 3′ N., long. 1° 32′ E.

(a.) Light :

Abridged Description.—Lt. alt. fl., W.R., ev. 15 secs.

Character.—An alternating flashing white and red light every fifteen seconds.

(b.) Fog-signal :

Description.—A siren giving three blasts (short, long, short) every minute.

DOVER STRAIT AND APPROACH.—INFORMATION WITH REGARD TO LIGHT-VESSELS AND BUOYAGE.

1. Information with regard to Light-vessels.

(a.) Light-vessels established :

Position.—At a distance of about 3½ miles south-westward from Folkestone. Lat. 51° 1′ 45″ N., long. 1° 8′ 30″ E.

(i.) Light :

Abridged Description.—Lt. fl., red, every thirty seconds.

Character.—A flashing red light every thirty seconds.

(ii.) Fog-signal :

Description.—A horn, worked by hand, giving three blasts, each of two and a half seconds duration, every two minutes.

(b.) Alteration in position of Varne light-vessel :

New Position.—Near the south-western end of the Ridge (Le Colbart) Shoal. Lat. 50° 49′ N., long. 1° 15′ E.

Description.—As described in the Admiralty List of Lights.

Remarks.—This light-vessel is known as the “S.W. Colbart.”

2. Information with regard to Buoyage.

(a.) Alteration in position of light-buoy :

New Position.—Off the south-western end of the Varne Shoal, in the position formerly occupied by the Varne Light-vessel, and at a distance of about 7 miles northward from the former position off the south-western end of the Ridge (Le Colbart) Shoal. Lat. 50° 56¼′ N., long. 1° 16½′ E.

Description.—A conical light-buoy, painted black, exhibiting a flashing white light every five seconds.

(b.) Light-buoys established :

(i.) Position.—At a distance of about 4½ miles westward from the south-western end of the Varne Shoal. Lat. 50° 54′ 15″ N., long. 1° 11′ E.

Description.—A conical light-buoy, painted black and numbered “6,” exhibiting a group flashing white light showing two flashes every ten seconds.

(ii.) Position.—At a distance of about 4¾ miles south-eastward from the south-western end of the Ridge (Le Colbart) Shoal. Lat. 50° 46′ 49″ N., long. 1° 23′ 28″ E.

Description.—A can light-buoy, painted black and numbered “8,” exhibiting a flashing white light every two and a half seconds.

SOUTH COAST.—SPITHEAD APPROACH.—POSITION OF LIGHT-VESSELS.

Mariners are notified that the positions of the Nab and Dean Light-vessels are temporarily as undermentioned :—

(a.) Nab Light-vessel :

Position.—Lat. 50° 41′ 2″ N., long. 0° 56′ 6″ W.

Description.—A light-vessel exhibiting a group flashing white light.

(b.) Warner Light-vessel (renamed “Dean”) :

Position.—Lat. 50° 43′ 20″ N., long. 0° 58′ 38″ W.

Description.—A light-vessel exhibiting a revolving white light.

Remarks.—This light-vessel has been temporarily renamed “Dean.”
