THE following Notices to Mariners, which have been received from the Department of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, and the Executive Office, Panama Canal, are published for general information.

PANAMA CANAL.
SAN JOSE LIGHT.

San Jose light was established on 30th September, 1918, on the south-western extremity of San Jose Island, Pearl Island Group, Republic of Panama.

The light is flashing, white, unwatched ; exhibited from a pyramidal, skeleton steel tower 15 ft. high, painted white. Focal plane, 222 ft. Visible 22 miles. Illuminant, acetylene gas, 1,000 candle-power. Arc of illumination from 40° 30' to 334° 30' true ; the remaining 66° being obscured by the island.
Characteristic : 5 seconds light ; 7 seconds dark.
Position : Lat. 8° 12' 24" north, long. 79° 7' 45" west.
- CAUTION.--This point should be given a berth of at least two miles.
AUSTRALIA.
NORTH COAST, CLARENCE STRAIT.--MARSH SHOAL.--LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED IN PLACE OF SPHERICAL BUOY.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that--
(1.) The light-buoy showing a group flashing white light is now permanently established ; and
(2.) The spherical buoy, with red and white horizontal bands, surmounted with a black staff and globe, has been removed.
Position.--The light-buoy is moored in 15 fathoms of water, about 4 cables north-westward of the western extremity of Marsh Shoal, and about 3 cables north-westward of the position of the former spherical buoy, which it replaces. Lat. 12° 5½' S., long. 130° 56' E., on Chart No. 1095.
Description.--A cylindrical light-buoy with framework superstructure, 15 ft. high, painted in red and white horizontal bands and numbered "6," exhibiting a group flashing white light showing three flashes in quick succession every twenty-two and a half seconds, thus--flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 19 secs.
Elevation.--12 ft.
Power.--1,300 candles.
Visibility.--8 miles.
Note.--The position of this buoy cannot be absolutely depended on, because it is liable to drift in the strong tidal currents experienced in this locality.
HENRY ELLIS REEF.--LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the light-buoy showing a group flashing red light is now permanently established.
Position.--The light-buoy is moored in 23 fathoms of water at a distance of about 1 cable north of Henry Ellis Reef. Lat. 12° 5' S., long. 131° 1' E., on Chart No. 1095.
Description.--A cylindrical light-buoy with framework superstructure, 15 ft. high, painted black and numbered "5," exhibiting a group flashing red light, showing four flashes in quick succession every thirty seconds, thus--flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 1 sec.; flash ½ sec., eclipse 25 secs.
Elevation.--12 ft.
Power.--600 candles.
Visibility.--8 miles.
Note.--The position of this buoy cannot be absolutely depended on, because it is liable to drift in the strong tidal currents experienced in this locality.
