to be Resident Commissioner of Niue, a Judge of the High Court of the Cook Islands, a Judge of the Native Land Court of the Cook Islands, and also to be Collector of Customs at the Port of Alofi at Niue, and Postmaster at Niue, as from the 1st day of April, 1918, vice H. G. Cornwall, retired.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the Territorial Force:—
APPOINTMENTS.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mathew Holmes, M.D., F.R.C.S., Edin., N.Z. Medical Corps (N.Z. Expeditionary Force), is appointed a member of a Special District Medical Board, with pay and allowances of Lieutenant-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting. Dated 12th March, 1918.
Honorary Lieutenant (temp.) Albert George Barlow, N.Z. Permanent Staff, relinquishes the appointment of Quartermaster, Tauherenikau Camp, and the honorary rank of Lieutenant whilst so employed. Dated 25th March, 1918.
2nd Lieutenant (temp. Captain) Andrew Melville Jameson, Unattached List (b), General List, relinquishes the appointment of Assistant Provost Marshal, and the temporary rank of Captain whilst so employed. Dated 13th March, 1918.
PROMOTIONS, RESIGNATIONS, AND TRANSFERS.
CORPS OF NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS.
New Zealand Railway Battalions (North Island).
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) William Robert Setter is confirmed under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913.
Sergeant Lewis Walter King to be 2nd Lieutenant on probation. Dated 6th February, 1918.
5th (Wellington) Regiment.
Colonel James Jacob Esson, C.M.G., is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, with effect from 31st May, 1916, and is absorbed into the regiment with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, as from 17th March, 1911 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 8, of the 1st February, 1912); and retains the rank of Colonel, temporarily, whilst holding the appointment of D.Q.M.G., N.Z. Military Forces.
7th (Wellington West Coast) Regiment.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) Norman Davidson Cox is terminated on his being posted to the Unattached List (b), General List.
