Arrangements for First Election, &c., Nightcaps Town District.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint

JOHN FISHER, of Otatau,

to be Returning Officer and person to prepare the electors roll for the first election of seven members of the Board of the Nightcaps Town District as constituted under the Town Boards Act, 1908; also to appoint Friday, the 27th day of September, 1918, as the day, and the Coronation Hall, Nightcaps, as the place, for holding the said first election; and Thursday, the 3rd day of October, 1918, at 8 o’clock in the evening to be the time, and the said Coronation Hall, Nightcaps, as the place, for holding the first meeting of the Board so elected.

Date of Election to fill Extraordinary Vacancy on Palmerston North, Feilding, and Petone Fire Boards by Fire-insurance Companies.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, George Warren Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Friday, the 20th September, 1918, to be the day for holding the election of one member of the Palmerston North, Feilding, and Petone Fire Boards by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill an extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. H. E. Kempthorne.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Watchmakers’ and Jewellers’ Shops in the City of Auckland, under the Shops and Offices Act, 1908.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller in the City of Auckland, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(a) The working-day immediately preceding each of the following days, Good Friday, Birthday of reigning Sovereign, and any other day which pursuant to a Proclamation by the Governor-General, or declaration by the Government, or on the request of the Mayor or Chairman of the local authority, is generally observed as a public holiday or half-holiday, when the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (b) should the occupier of any shop bound by the provisions of this requisition observe, pursuant to section 19 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, any day therein mentioned and referred to in exception (a) above, other than Saturday, as the statutory closing-day in any week, then and in such case the closing-hour for any such shop on Saturday in that week shall be 6 p.m., provided that the provisions of this requisition shall not operate for the period between the 10th day of December and the 10th day of January in each year, both days inclusive:

And whereas the Auckland City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller within the City of Auckland:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 18th day of September, 1918, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) watchmaker and (2) jeweller in the City of Auckland shall be closed accordingly.

Notice of Intention to take Land for Scenic Purposes in Block IV, Horohoro Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and the Scenery Preservation Amend-ment Act, 1910, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for scenic purposes. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Rotorua, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block II, Mangamuka Survey District, for the Purposes of a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road in Block II, Mangamuka Survey District; and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Rangiahua, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works at Wellington.

APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken:
1 rood 20 perches.

Being Section 69, Te Karae Block, Block II, Mangamuka Survey District. (S.O. 19646.)

In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 43725, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured blue.
