Opening National Endowment Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Tuesday, the twenty-fourth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

West Taupo County.—Tuhua Survey District.

SECTION 4, Block XIV: Area, 154 acres 0 roods 20 perches; capital value, £690; half-yearly rent, £13 16s.

Altitude, 650 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating country, about 20 acres mixed forest, balance covered with fern, manuka, tutu, and patches of clover. Soil of medium quality, on papa formation; watered by small streams. Distant about three miles and a half from Taumarunui—half a mile by formed dray-road and about three miles as yet unformed.

Section 11, Block XIII: Area, 127 acres 0 roods 30 perches; capital value, £220; half-yearly rent, £4 8s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Level to slightly undulating land; about 15 acres mixed forest, balance manuka, fern, and tussock. Soil of poor quality; fairly watered by swamp near river. Distant about three miles and a half from Taumarunui by formed dray-road.

Section 12, Block XIII: Area, 161 acres 1 rood 27 perches; capital value, £440; half-yearly rent, £8 16s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Level to undulating country, covered with fern, manuka, and tutu. Soil of medium quality; well watered by swamp. Distant about three miles and a half from Taumarunui—about three miles and a quarter by formed dray-road, balance unformed.

Section 13, Block XIII: Area, 164 acres 2 roods 20 perches; capital value, £370; half-yearly rent, £7 8s.

Section 14, Block XIII: Area, 133 acres 3 roods 36 perches; capital value, £270; half-yearly rent, £5 8s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Level to undulating country, covered with fern, manuka, and tutu; the land south of the swamp is of much better quality than that north of the swamp. Soil poor to medium in quality, on volcanic formation; well watered by swamp. Distant about two miles and a half to three miles from Taumarunui by formed dray-road.

Section 15, Block XIII: Area, 81 acres; capital value, £220; half-yearly rent, £4 8s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Level to slightly broken country, covered with fern and manuka. Soil of poor quality, on volcanic formation; fairly watered by small swamp. Distant about two miles from Taumarunui by formed dray-road.

Section 24, Block XIII: Area, 111 acres 3 roods 30 perches; capital value, £500; half-yearly rent, £10.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to slightly broken land, about half light mixed forest from which the milling timber has been removed; balance fern, tutu, and manuka. Soil of medium quality, on papa formation; fairly well watered by small springs. Distant about two miles from Taumarunui—half a mile by dray-road, balance unformed.

Section 25, Block XIII: Area, 116 acres; capital value, £580; half-yearly rent, £11 12s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to slightly broken land, covered with fern, manuka, and tutu. Soil of medium quality, on papa formation; well watered by small stream and springs. Distant about one mile from Taumarunui, half of which distance is by formed dray-road, remainder unformed.

Section 26, Block XIII: Area, 5 acres 2 roods 10 perches; capital value, £70; half-yearly rent, £1 8s.

Section 27, Block XIII: Area, 4 acres 2 roods 35 perches; capital value, £70; half-yearly rent, £1 8s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 650 ft. above sea-level. Undulating fern and manuka country. Soil of medium quality, on volcanic formation; fairly well watered by swamp. Distant about three-quarters of a mile from Taumarunui, of which half a mile is formed dray-road, balance unformed.

Section 28, Block XIII: Area, 10 acres 3 roods 9 perches; capital value, £160; half-yearly rent, £3 4s.

Sections 28 and 29 front main road, remaining sections from three-quarters of a mile to two miles from Taumarunui, half a mile of which distance is by dray-road.

Section 31, Block XIII: Area, 10 acres 2 roods 28 perches; capital value, £210; half-yearly rent, £4 4s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 650 ft. above sea-level. Level to undulating land covered with fern and scrub. Soil of poor quality; well watered by swamp. Distance about three-quarters of a mile from Taumarunui by formed dray-road.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by section four of the Cemeteries Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

WILLIAM CASSELS

to be trustees, in the place of Reverend John Steven and John Wilson, deceased, to provide for the maintenance and care of the Papakai o Public Cemetery, in conjunction with Donald Borrie, Peter Dunn, and Peter Fraser, previously appointed.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this twenty-third day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen.

Adjustment of Loans between Hawera County Council and Eltham County Council.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the provisions of subsection ten of section seventy-three of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make an adjustment in respect of the several loans enumerated in the Schedule hereto, originally raised by the Hawera County Council, between that Council and the Eltham County Council, as regards payments made by the Hawera County Council since the date of the merger, or inclusion, of the areas affected in the Eltham County, and within the period of five years preceding the date of this Warrant, and do hereby direct that the Eltham County Council shall pay to the Hawera County Council the sum of four hundred and eighty pounds in full satisfaction and discharge of all claims against the Eltham County Council for or in respect of any of the said loans.
