Sergeant Alexander Craig Aitken, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 26th August, 1916.

2nd Lieutenant Alexander Craig Aitken, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 26th August, 1916; to date from 21st June, 1917.

Sergeant Stanley Luscombe Searell is appointed Assistant Paymaster in the N.Z. Expeditionary Force, for duty on New Zealand transports, and is granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant whilst so employed. Dated 21st May, 1917.

ERRATUM.

The notification in the New Zealand Gazette No. 78, of 3rd May, 1917, relative to the appointment of Staff Sergeant Royden Vivian McDowell, is cancelled, and the following substituted: “2nd Lieutenant Royden Vivian McDowell, Unattached List (b), is appointed Assistant Officer in Charge Supplies, Featherston Camp. Dated 1st April, 1917.”

Special Order made by the Whakatane County Council altering Boundaries of Ridings.

THE following special order, made by the Whakatane County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1908.

WHAKATANE COUNTY COUNCIL.

Adjustment Representation in the Council and re New Ridings.

In exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of the Counties Act, 1908, the County Council resolves, by way of special order, as follows:—

  1. The present division of the County of Whakatane into five ridings is revoked, and in lieu thereof the said county shall be divided into eight ridings, to be called respectively Matata Riding, Tarawera Riding, Rangitaiki Riding, Omataroa Riding, Taneatua Riding, Opouriao Riding, Nukuhou Riding, and Waimana Riding, which said ridings are respectively described in the Schedule hereto.

  2. The said Whakatane County Council shall consist of ten members, who shall be elected as follows:—
    (a.) The electors of the Tarawera Riding and the Rangitaiki Riding shall each elect two Councillors.
    (b.) The electors of the Matata Riding, Omataroa Riding, Taneatua Riding, Opouriao Riding, Nukuhou Riding, and Waimana Riding shall each elect one Councillor.

  3. The alteration hereby made shall take effect at the general election of Councillors to be held on the 14th day of November, 1917, except in so far and to such extent as may be necessary for preparing any roll or otherwise providing for that election.

SCHEDULE.

Matata Riding.

All that area in the Auckland Land District, Whakatane County, bounded commencing at the north-west corner of the Whakatane County, being the north-west corner of Section 1, Block IV, Waihi South Survey District; thence easterly along the county boundary, high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty, to the left bank of the mouth of the Tarawera River diversion, Block VI, Awa-o-te-Atua Survey District; thence southerly along the left bank of the Tarawera River to its intersection with the confiscation boundary-line; thence westward along the confiscation boundary-line to its intersection in Block XV, Rotoma Survey District, with the western boundary of the Whakatane County; thence northerly along said county boundary to the point of commencement.

Tarawera Riding.

All that area in the Auckland Land District, Whakatane County, bounded commencing at a point on the left bank of the mouth of the Tarawera River diversion, Block VI, Awa-o-te-Atua Survey District; thence easterly along the high-water mark of the Bay of Plenty, northern boundary of the Whakatane County, to the left bank of the mouth of the Rangitaiki River diversion, Block V, Awa-o-te-Atua Survey District; thence along the left bank of the Rangitaiki River in a southerly direction to the junction of the Ngatamawahine Stream, Block VI, Galatea Survey District; thence north-westerly along said stream to the intersection of eastern boundary of Run No. 54 in Block VI, Galatea Survey District; thence southerly along the eastern boundaries of Run No. 54 aforesaid and Runs 56 and 57 to the intersection of the eastern boundary of Run 57 with the Whakatane County boundary; thence westerly and northerly along the Whakatane County boundary to Trig. 18, Maungawhakamana, Block III, Ruawahia Survey District; thence north-easterly along county boundary aforesaid till it meets the confiscation boundary-line, Block XV, Rotoma Survey District; thence easterly and northerly along the southern and eastern boundaries of Matata Riding aforedescribed to the point of commencement.
