Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers of the Staff and Territorial Force.

H IS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the Staff and Territorial Force :—
STAFF.
Honorary Major James O'Sullivan, attached to N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Inspector, Equipment and Ordnance Stores, and is posted to the Retired List, under the provisions of paragraph 127, General Regulations, 1913, with effect from 30th April, 1917.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) Joseph Coleman, N.Z. Staff Corps, is posted to the Retired List, with the honorary rank of Captain, with effect from 2nd April, 1917.
5TH MOUNTED RIFLES (OTAGO HUSSARS).
Lieutenant Archibald Slinger to be Captain. Dated 9th May, 1917.
9TH (WELLINGTON EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Walter Raymond to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 15th May, 1917.
llTH (NORTH AUCKLAND) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Honorary Lieutenant and Quartermaster Alexander Pringle Speedy is granted the substantive rank of Lieutenant, supernumerary to Establishment. Dated 12th May, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND GARRISON ARTILLERY.
Major Anthony Crispe Cottrell to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and to command the Coast Defence Troops at Westport. Dated 4th May, 1917.
CORPS OF NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS.
No. 2 Field Company.
Captain Fred. Waite, D.S.O., N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Major, as from 18th December, 1912 (vide New Zealand Gazette of 23rd January, 1913), to date from 16th May, 1917.
Major Fred. Waite, D.S.O., is appointed Chief Engineer Instructor to the N.Z. Expeditionary Force Training-camps. Dated 31st August, 1916.
4TH (OTAGO) REGIMENT.
Coast Defence Detachment.
Captain Harold Livingstone Tapley, from the Reserve of Officers, to be Captain. Dated 15th May, 1917.
llTH REGIMENT (TARANAKI RIFLES).
Captain William Eugene Stafford Furby, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Captain, as from 12th February, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 33, of 4th March, 1915), to date from 31st May, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND RIFLE BRIGADE (TERRITORIAL).
2nd Lieutenant John Walter Snaddon, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein —viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 18th December, 1914 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 10, of 28th January, 1915), to date from 18th May, 1917, and is attached for duty with the 9th (Hawke's Bay) Regiment.
NEW ZEALAND ARMY SERVICE CORPS.
No. 9 Company.
Lieutenant Leopold George Dyke Acland to be Captain, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 19th January, 1917.
The undermentioned 2nd Lieutenants to be Lieutenants, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 28th April, 1917 :— George Eliot Eliott. Angus Gordon Macdonald.
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.
Honorary Major John Alexander Hurley is appointed a Consulting Bacteriologist to the N.Z. Military Forces, to date from 28th May, 1915.
The undermentioned to be members of a Special District Medical Board :— Major Douglas Dixen Dryden, L.R.C.P., L.R.C.S., Edin. Dated 20th February, 1917.
Major John Craig, L.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., Ire. Dated 14th May, 1917.
Captain William Philip Johnston, M.B., B.S., N.Z. Univ. Dated 14th May, 1917.
With reference to the various notices published in the New Zealand Gazette, the undermentioned officers of the N.Z. Henry Howard Christie to be Captain (temp.) whilst doing duty with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 28th November, 1915. Captain Henry Howard Christie proceeded on active service with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 8th December, 1915.
NEW ZEALAND DENTAL CORPS.
The undermentioned to be Lieutenants :— George Irving Marshall. Dated 10th May, 1917. Frederick William Walters. Dated 14th May, 1917. Robert Bevan Dodds. Dated 14th May, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.
The Reverend William Bramwell Scott to be Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class. Dated 27th April, 1917. The commission granted the Reverend Ernest Albert Kirkwood, Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class, is cancelled, under the provisions of section 5 (a) of the Defence Act, 1909. Dated 17th May, 1917. The commission granted the Reverend William Hay, Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class, is cancelled, under the provisions of section 5 (a) of the Defence Act, 1909. Dated 17th May, 1917.

Captain Arthur James Webber, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Lieutenant, as from 3rd November, 1914 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 30, of the 25th February, 1915), to date from 14th June, 1917.
UNATTACHED LIST (b).
2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) Ethelbert Joseph James Welch is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst employed as Ship's Quartermaster. Dated 1st May, 1917. The notification in the New Zealand Gazette No. 57, of 1911, relating to 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Walter Buchanan, should read “2nd Lieutenant Walter Buchanan Thomas.” 2nd Lieutenant Arthur Sager Bailey, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 4th June, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 89, of 22nd July, 1915), to date from 16th June, 1917.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (temp.) :— James Edward Shimmin. Dated 14th May, 1917. Sergeant Robert Bruce. Dated 16th May, 1917. Wilfred William Garton. Dated 16th May, 1917.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) Richard Argent Bennett lapses, under the provisions of paragraph 89, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 8th May, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant Hector Leo Jack Redmond is dismissed the service by sentence of a General Court-martial, to date from 18th February, 1917.
