THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

[No. 98

Lieutenant George Gordon Priest, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Honorary Lieutenant, as from 16th January, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette of 22nd April, 1915), to date from 15th June, 1917.

Lieutenant McKenzie John White, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 15th March, 1915 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 73, of the 10th June, 1915), to date from 12th June, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant Ronald Henry Quilliam, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 1st January, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 5, of the 20th January, 1916), to date from 18th March, 1917.

MEMORANDA.

The notification in the New Zealand Gazette No. 78/17, of 3rd May, 1917, relating to 2nd Lieutenant William Lancelot Girling Butcher, N.Z. Rifle Brigade (Territorial), is cancelled, and the following substituted : “2nd Lieutenant Walter Lancelot Girling -Butcher, Unattached List (b), General List, returns to duty, with seniority as from 1st April, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 35, of 30th March, 1916).

Major Kenneth Macfarlane Gresson is appointed Military Representative on the 2nd Canterbury Military Service Board. Dated 1st May, 1917.

Frederick Calvert is appointed Military Representative to the 3rd Wellington Military Service Board, and is granted the rank of temporary Captain whilst so employed, vice Captain T. L. Cowlishaw. Dated 7th May, 1917.

Captain T. Cowlishaw relinquishes his appointment as Military Representative to the 3rd Wellington Military Service Board. Dated 15th May, 1917.

Captain (temp.) G. L. Spratt relinquishes his appointment as Military Representative on the 2nd Canterbury Military Service Board, and retains the temporary rank of Captain whilst attached to Headquarters Staff for special duty in the Department of the Adjutant-General to the Forces. Dated 1st May, 1917.

ADDENDA.

With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 78, of 3rd May, 1917, under the heading “New Zealand Garrison Artillery,” after the words “Lieutenant Frank Henry Ross Jackson, from the Reserve of Officers,” add the word “temporarily:”

COMMANDS AND STAFF.

Major T. H. Dawson, Auckland Regiment, to be D.A.A. and Q.M.G., N.Z.E.F., to date 30th March, 1917. Major H. S. N. Robinson, N.Z.S.C., to be Staff Captain, 4th N.Z. Infantry Brigade, to complete Establishment, to date 15th March, 1917.

Bt.-Major W. H. Hastings, D.S.O., 92nd Punjabis, relinquishes the appointment of Brigade-Major, 3rd N.Z. (Rifles) Brigade, and is struck off the strength of the N.Z.E.F., on departure to rejoin the Indian Army, to date 17th March, 1917.

Major N. W. B. B. Thoms, M.C., N.Z.S.C., from G.S.O., 3rd Grade, N.Z. Division, to be Brigade-Major, 3rd N.Z. (Rifles) Brigade, vice Bt.-Major W. H. Hastings, D.S.O., 92nd Punjabis, returned to India, to date 26th March, 1917.

Major W. I. K. Jennings, N.Z.S.C., to be G.S.O., 3rd Grade, N.Z. Division, vice Major N. W. B. B. Thoms, M.C., N.Z.S.C. (appointed Brigade-Major, 3rd N.Z. (Rifles) Brigade), to date 26th March 1917.

Captain (temp. Major) D. Finlay, 7th Dragoon Guards, from Brigade-Major, N.Z.M.R. Brigade, to be G.S.O., 2nd Grade, Southern Canal Section, E.E.F., and is struck off the strength of the N.Z.E.F., to date 17th February, 1917.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. W. Alderman, C.M.G., A.I.F. Staff, to be General Staff Officer, N.Z. Infantry Reserve Group, vice Major W. Garforth, M.C., R.E. (rejoining British Army), to date 30th March, 1917.

Lieutenant D. S. Chisholm, Otago Regiment, performed the duties of Staff Captain, 3rd N.Z. (Rifles) Brigade, vice Captain R. G. Purdy, N.Z.S.C., from 26th December, 1916, to 9th March, 1917.

AUCKLAND MOUNTED RIFLES.

Lieutenant H. D. Williams is struck off the strength of the N.Z.E.F., and transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. Dated 15th July, 1916.

Major W. A. Bennett, returned to New Zealand on duty, is seconded while so employed, to date 28th February, 1917. 2nd Lieutenant W. H. Coates is seconded for duty with the Royal Flying Corps, to date 20th February, 1917.

2nd Lieutenant D. S. Manners to be Adjutant, N.Z.M.R. Brigade Training Regiment, vice Captain P. Oldham, Wellington Mounted Rifles, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant while so employed, to date 10th March, 1917.

Lieutenant J. H. Herrold to be Captain, vice Captain M. Aldred, to date 28th February, 1917.

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) A. C. M. Finlayson to be Captain, to date 28th February, 1917.

CANTERBURY MOUNTED RIFLES.

The undermentioned are seconded for duty with the Royal Flying Corps, from dates shown :
