Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers of the Staff, New Zealand Staff Corps, and Territorial Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the Staff, New Zealand Staff Corps, Permanent Staff, and Territorial Force.
STAFF.
Major (Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel) Clarence Reginald Macdonald (Imperial General Staff) is granted the temporary rank of Colonel whilst acting as Chief Infantry Instructor, New Zealand Expeditionary Force Training Camps, with effect from the 20th March, 1917.
Captain (temp. Major) George Frederick Hutton, D.S.O. (Royal Welsh Fusiliers), relinquishes the appointment of Musketry Instructor (temp.) for the Canterbury Military District. Dated 14th March, 1917.
Captain (temp. Major) George Frederick Hutton, D.S.O. (Royal Welsh Fusiliers), is appointed Assistant Instructor, Mounted Rifles, Featherston Camp, and retains the temporary rank of Major whilst so employed. Dated 14th March, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND STAFF CORPS.
Lieutenant-Colonel Harry Rowland Potter is granted the temporary rank of Colonel whilst holding the appointment of Camp Commandant, Trentham, with effect from 20th March, 1917.
Major Wilson Cameron Morrison is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Captain, as from the 1st October, 1912, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 75, of the 3rd October, 1912. Dated 31st March, 1917.
Captain Wilson Cameron Morrison is appointed General Staff Officer, Canterbury Military District, and is granted the temporary rank of Major whilst so employed, with effect from the 27th February, 1917.
Captain (temp. Major) William Charles Finnis relinquishes the appointment of General Staff Officer, Canterbury Military District, and retains the temporary rank of Major whilst employed in Expeditionary Force Training Camps. Dated 27th February, 1916.
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 47, of the 15th March, 1917, Appointment of Officers proceeding on Active Service, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, under the heading “Staff” delete the name of Captain Edward Purdon, New Zealand Staff Corps.
NEW ZEALAND PERMANENT STAFF.
Honorary Lieutenant (temp.) Livingstone Forsythe McNair, attached to New Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed Ordnance Officer, Trentham Camp. Dated 19th March, 1917.
Staff Sergeant-Major Alfred William Baldwin is granted the rank of Honorary Lieutenant (temp.) whilst employed as Ordnance Officer, Featherston Camp. Dated 19th March, 1917.
QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S (2ND WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Lieutenant Vernon Crawshaw is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Captain, dated 14th November, 1916, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 4, of the 11th January, 1917. Dated 16th April, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND FIELD ARTILLERY.
Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) Noel Percy Adams is granted the temporary rank of Colonel whilst holding the appointment of Camp Commandant, Featherston, with effect from 20th March, 1917.
CORPS OF NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS—NEW ZEALAND POST AND TELEGRAPH CORPS (NORTH ISLAND).
Sergeant-Major Henry Nankervis to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 14th March, 1917.
Sergeant Harry Whitehead to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), vice Lieutenant Lockie, on active service. Dated 9th March, 1917.
3RD (AUCKLAND) REGIMENT (COUNTESS OF RANFURLY’S OWN).
Captain (Honorary Major) John Thomas Graham is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Honorary Lieutenant and Quartermaster, dated 2nd August, 1911, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 9, of the 8th February, 1912. Dated 16th April, 1917.
7TH (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) REGIMENT.
2nd Lieutenant Frank Edward Clarke, from the 11th Regiment (Taranaki Rifles), to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 14th March, 1917.
11TH REGIMENT (TARANAKI RIFLES).
Captain William James Shepherd is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, dated 29th January, 1917, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 34, of the 22nd February, 1917. Dated 16th April, 1917.
Major John Wallace Brunt is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., Major, dated 8th August, 1915, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 20, of the 24th February, 1916. Dated 16th April, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Frank Edward Clarke is transferred to the 7th (Wellington West Coast) Regiment. Dated 14th March, 1917.
13TH (NORTH CANTERBURY AND WESTLAND) REGIMENT.
Frank Barcham Powell to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 14th March, 1917.
14TH (SOUTH OTAGO) REGIMENT.
2nd Lieutenant Robert William Stanley Botting is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed into the Establishment, with his original rank and seniority therein—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, dated 14th June, 1915, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 89, of the 22nd July, 1915. Dated 16th April, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.
Wallace Robert Wade, M.D., M.R.C.S., D.P.H., is granted the temporary rank of Captain during the period of the war. Dated 16th March, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND DENTAL CORPS.
Charles Grant Burdett is granted the rank of Honorary Captain (temp.) whilst acting as an Expert Dental Adviser to Medical Boards during the period of the war. Dated 17th February, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND CHAPLAINS DEPARTMENT.
The Reverend James Connor Murphy to be Chaplain to the Forces (4th Class). Dated 1st March, 1917.
UNATTACHED LIST (b).
Lieutenant William Hudson Scoon is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., Lieutenant, dated 4th June, 1911, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 90, of the 16th November, 1911. Dated 15th April, 1917.
The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on probation) William James Little is confirmed, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913.
2nd Lieutenant William James Little is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed, with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, dated 16th June, 1915, vide New Zealand Gazette No. 107, of the 9th September, 1915. Dated 16th April, 1917.

Corporal Arthur Topham (New Zealand Expeditionary Force) to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 31st May, 1915.
Lieutenant Arthur Topham is struck off the strength of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and absorbed, with his original rank of 2nd Lieutenant, as from the 31st May, 1915. Dated 7th April, 1917.
Company Quartermaster-Sergeant Augustus George Baddeley (New Zealand Expeditionary Force) to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 1st March, 1916.
