High Street, in the Borough of Motueka, exempted from the Provisions of Section 117 of the Public Works Act, 1908, subject to a Condition as to the Building-line.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this fifth day of March, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE A. L. HERDMAN PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by subsection one of section one hundred and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, it is, inter alia, provided that the said section shall not apply in any case where the local authority having control of any road or street by resolution declares that the provisions thereof shall not apply to any specified road or street, or any specified part thereof, and such resolution is approved by the Governor in Council:

And whereas by subsection two of section one hundred and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, it is provided that such approval may be either absolute or subject to such conditions with respect to the building-line as the Governor, by Order in Council, thinks fit to impose:

And whereas the Motueka Borough Council, the local authority having control of the street described in the Schedule hereto, has passed the following resolution—viz., “That the Council of the Borough of Motueka doth hereby declare that the provisions of section one hundred and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908, shall not apply to High Street, as shown on the plan of the said street”:

And whereas it is deemed expedient that such resolution should be approved, subject to the condition hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the above-in-part-recited Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby approve of the said resolution, subject to the condition that no building or part of a building shall at any time be erected on the western side of the said street within a distance of sixty-six feet from the eastern side, as originally shown on the borough plan, of the said street.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that street situated in the Nelson Land District, Motueka Borough, known as High Street. As the said street is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 41303, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, in the Wellington Provincial District, and thereon coloured red.

Prohibiting all Private Alienation of certain Native Land.

ON the recommendation of the Native Land Purchase Board, referred to in section three hundred and sixty-three of the Native Land Act, 1909, and in exercise of the power in this behalf conferred upon him by that section, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby prohibit, for the period of one year from the date of this Order in Council, all alienations of the Native lands specified in the Schedule hereto other than alienations in favour of the Crown.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the seventeenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and ten, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the eighteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and ten, regulations were made under the authority of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1908 (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), inter alia, prescribing the rates of postage from New Zealand on postal packets to places outside of New Zealand: And whereas it is desirable to amend such regulations in the manner hereinafter set forth:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the said Act, and all other powers and authorities in that behalf enabling him, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby amend the regulations in the Schedule to the above-recited Order in Council, in the manner and to the extent set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth revoke so much of the regulations in the Schedule to the above-recited Order in Council as is inconsistent with this Order; and doth declare that the additions and alterations hereby made shall form part of and be read together with the regulations made by the hereinbefore-recited Order in Council, and shall come into force on the date of publication of this Order in Council in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

RATES OF POSTAGE.

THE rates on letters, newspapers, and registered magazines addressed to New Guinea (except Dutch New Guinea), Nauru, Bismarck Archipelago (including New Britain, New Ireland, New Hanover, Admiralty Island), Solomon Islands (including Bougainville and Buka), are as follows:—

Letters .. .. 1d. per oz.
Newspapers .. .. 1d. for each newspaper up to 20 oz., and ½d. for each additional 10 oz.
Magazines (registered) .. Each copy not exceeding 2 oz., ½d.; if over 2 oz. and not exceeding 4 oz., 1d.; exceeding 4 oz. and not exceeding 8 oz., 1d.
; every additional 4 oz. or fraction thereof, ½d.

  • Plus an additional ½d. (war tax) on each article.

Letters addressed to all the British postal agencies in China (except Hong Kong and Wei-hai-wei) must be paid for at Postal Union rates.

Regulations for Deer-shooting, Otago.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “the said Act”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Otago Acclimatization District, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS.

  1. RED-DEER stags may be taken or killed within the Otago Acclimatization District, except in the areas described in the First Schedule hereto, from the 2nd day of April, 1917, to the 20th day of May, 1917 (both days inclusive).

  2. Fallow-deer bucks may be taken or killed within the said district, except in the areas described in the First Schedule hereto, from the 2nd day of April, 1917, to the 15th day of May, 1917 (both days inclusive).

  3. Licenses to take or kill red-deer stags may be issued by the Chief Postmaster, Dunedin, on the recommendation of the secretary of the Otago Acclimatization Society, on payment of a license fee of £4, and licenses to take or kill
