The buoy has been renamed Mitsu Se.

Koshiki Se.—Light-buoy discontinued.

The black light-buoy heretofore moored to mark the
2-fathom shoal north-eastward of Koshiki Se has been permanently discontinued.

Light-buoys moved.

The following light-buoys, moored in Shimonoseki Strait,
have been moved and re-established, as follows :—

Light-buoy No. 5, black, showing an occulting green light,
formerly moored 1,100 yards 182° 30' from Hiyori Yama
summit (296), has been re-established 1,500 yards 229° 30'
from the Meteorological Station.

Light-buoy No. 3, black, showing an occulting green light,
formerly moored 1,210 yards 169° from Hiyori Yama, has
been re-established 1,490 yards 215° from the Meteorological
Station.

Light-buoy No. 1, black, showing a flashing white light with
1 group of 2 flashes, formerly moored 1,410 yards 162° 30'
from Hiyori Yama, has been re-established 1,570 yards 201°
from the Meteorological Station.

Light-buoy No. 2, red, showing an occulting white light,
formerly moored 1,280 yards 150° from Hiyori Yama, has
been re-established 1,100 yards 195° from the Meteorological
Station.

Approx. position of Meteorological Station : Latitude
33° 57′ 20" N., longitude 130° 56' 15" E.

WASHINGTON.

STRAIT OF JUAN DE FUCA.—SLIP POINT LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—FOG-SIGNAL CHANGED.

On 25th October, 1916, the characteristic of Slip Point
light was changed from fixed to flashing white, of 80,000 candle-
power, every 5 seconds—thus, flash 0·2 second, eclipse 4·8
seconds.

The light is exhibited, 72 ft. above high water, from a
cylindrical lantern on a square tower with fog-signal building
attached.

The fog-signal has been changed from a third-class reed
horn to an air diaphone which sounds 1 blast of 3 seconds
duration every 30 seconds.

Approx. position : Lat. 48° 15′ 48" N., long. 124° 15' W.

CANADA.

NOVA SCOTIA.—HALIFAX HARBOUR.—SUBMARINE CABLE LAID.

Position.—Sugar Refinery high chimney, lat. 44° 40' N.,
long. 63° 35³⁄₄' W.

Details.—A submarine electric power cable has been laid
across Halifax Harbour, between Halifax and Dartmouth,
the route of which is as follows : From a point situated at a
distance of 160 yards, 320° (N. 18° W. mag.), from the high
chimney on the Sugar Refinery mentioned above, the cable
runs in a 70° (S. 88° E. mag.) direction to a point on the
Dartmouth shore near the pond westward of Grist Mill.

Caution.—Mariners are warned not to anchor in the vicinity
of the cables, and a signboard has been placed on the bank
at each end of the cable with the words “Submarine Cable :
Do not anchor” marked thereon.

Note.—The signboards above mentioned are not to be
referred to on the charts.

Variation.—22° W.

BRITISH COLUMBIA.

BURRARD INLET.—NORTH VANCOUVER.—LIGHTS ESTABLISHED.

The following lights maintained by the Vancouver Creo-
soting Company and not to be considered as navigational
aids, have been established at North Vancouver.

A fixed white light elevated 23 ft. above the sea and visible
5 miles, on a dolphin located 1,193 yards 29° from Brockton
Point light.

Approx. position : Lat. 49° 18' 33" N., long. 123° 0' 36" W.

A fixed white light elevated 23 ft. above the sea and visible
5 miles, on a dolphin located 1,306 yards 35° from Brockton
Point light and about 160 yards 84° from the preceding
light.

CENTRAL AMERICA.

CARIBBEAN COAST.—PANAMA.—PANAMA CANAL ENTRANCE
REAR LEADING-LIGHT.—CORRECTION TO ADMIRALTY PUB-
LICATIONS.

Position.—Eastward of the Gatun Locks; Lat. 9° 16½' N.,
long. 79° 55½' W.

Correction.—The rear leading-light for the Canal entrance
is incorrectly described in certain Admiralty publications as
group flashing white ; the correct description of the light is
occulting white every five seconds—thus, light 4½ secs., eclipse
½ sec. The publications are to be corrected accordingly.

Note.—The light is correctly shown on Chart No. 3111.

BRAZIL.

EAST COAST.—RIO DE JANEIRO HARBOUR.—BUOYS CHANGED.

The light-buoys marking the submarine cable between
Rio de Janeiro and Nictheroy have been withdrawn, and two
light-buoys, painted blue, exhibiting flashing blue lights,
have been established as follows :—

The first about 900 yards 97° from Calhabouco Point light,
in (approximately) latitude 22° 54' 30" S., longitude 43° 9' 30"
W. ; the second about 2,450 yards 73° from the first.

URUGUAY.

PLATA RIVER.—MALDONADO BAY.—GORRITI ISLAND.—FOG-
SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.—COLOUR OF LIGHT-STRUCTURE.

A bell sounding 1 stroke every 15 seconds has been estab-
lished on a pillar south-westward of the light on Gorriti
Island.

The light-structure has been painted black.

Approx. position : Lat. 34° 57' 42" S., long. 54° 58' 26" W.

MONTEVIDEO.—CHANGE IN BUOYAGE.

A black light and bell buoy exhibiting a flashing white
light every 6 seconds has been established, 1,060 yards 180°
from the flashing green light on the west breakwater and about
60 yards northward of its former position on the western side
of the dredged channel. The bell sounds 3 strokes every 10
seconds.

Approx. position : Lat. 34° 55' 30" S., long. 56° 13' 30" W.

A red light-buoy, exhibiting a flashing red light every 6
seconds, has been established, about 1,100 yards 166° from the
same light and about 90 yards northward of the former posi-
tion, on the eastern side of the dredged channel.

PLATA RIVER.—MALDONADO BAY.—GORRITI ISLAND.—LIGHT
ESTABLISHED.

A flashing green light has been established on an iron beacon
set in a cement base, about 120 yards 183° from the hut on
Gorriti Island. The light is visible 3 miles from 357° to 77°.

Approx. position : Lat. 34° 57' 45" S., long. 54° 58' 30" W.
