Lands temporarily reserved in the Wellington Land District.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by the three-hundred-and-twenty-first section of the Land Act, 1908, it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

And whereas by the sixty-ninth section of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, it is further provided that the Governor may from time to time, as he thinks fit, set aside reserves for any specified public purpose out of land acquired under the last-mentioned Act, provided that no land so acquired shall be set aside for endowments:

Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the said Acts, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the lands described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes in the said Schedule specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be temporarily reserved.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, containing 104 acres 1 rood, more or less, being Section 2, Block VI, Karioi Survey District, bounded as follows—commencing at a point on the eastern bank of the Waitaiki Stream distant 179·1 links on a bearing of 57° 40′ from peg marked XIV on the eastern boundary-line of Karioi Domain, being Section 1, Block VI aforesaid, and bounded towards the north-west and north-east generally by part of Run 31, Block VI aforesaid, on lines bearing 57° 40′, 265 links, 50° 50′ 30″, 466·7 links, 77° 18′, 344·1 links, 55° 20′, 917·8 links, 126° 10′, 744·4 links, 146°, 1061·1 links, 185° 22′, 421·4 links, and 199° 7′, 150 links, to the bank of the Makokomiko Stream; towards the south-east generally by that stream to its junction with the Waitaiki Stream; and towards the west generally by the last-mentioned stream to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on a plan marked L. and S. 6/11/5, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For a rifle range.

All that area in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 2 roods 22 perches, more or less, being Section 27s, Tiraumea Settlement. Bounded towards the north-west and north-east by Section 3s, 277·3 and 901·6 links; towards the south-east by Alfredton-Weber Road, 277·3 links; and towards the south-west by Section 26s, 901·6 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. As the same is delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 21/37, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. For a site for a post-office.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection by Discharged Soldiers.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, under ordinary tenures, shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-sixth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and amendments.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Hokianga County.—Waoku Survey District.

Section 8, Block XV: Area, 204 acres. Capital value, £200. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent £5. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4.

Altitude, 500 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Undulating country, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rata, rimu, kahikatea, taraire, &c., with dense undergrowth of kiekie, toetoe, and shrubs. Soil of good second-class quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by stream. Distant about eleven miles from Waimamaku, six miles of which is by fair cart-road, balance bridle-track now formed to within a short distance of section and to be completed shortly.

Sections 10 and 12, Block XVI: Area, 399 acres 2 roods. Capital value, £240. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £6. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £4 16s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land, covered with mixed forest comprising rimu, towai, hinau, rata, pukatea, miro, and tawa, with dense undergrowth of puka, hangahanga, karamu, kohutahuta, mahoe, kiekie, supplejack, &c. Soil of rather inferior quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about eighteen miles from Whatoro Railway-station by rough cart-road.

Thames and Ohinemuri Counties, Piako Survey District.

Section 6, Block VII: Area, 448 acres 3 roods 23 perches. Capital value, £670. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £16 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £13 8s.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Rather broken land, covered with fern and manuka. Clay soil of rather poor quality; not well watered. Distant about seven miles from Waitakaruru by well formed cart-road. Waitakaruru wharf is accessible by water for launches from Auckland or Thames.

Bay of Islands County, Kawakawa Survey District.

Section 15, Block VII: Area, 735 acres 2 roods 26 perches. Capital value, £460. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £11 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £9 4s.

Altitude, 20 ft. to 550 ft. above sea-level. Undulating and broken land, with a few acres swamp; about three-fourths fern and manuka scrub, balance heavy manuka (partly burnt) and mixed forest comprising totara, puriri, rimu, towai, taraire, kohekohe, mamaku, rewarewa, and manuka, with medium undergrowth of puka, kohutuhutu, mahoe, hangehange, punga, nikau, supplejack, &c.; there are also a few kauri-trees of no market value. Soil inferior clay, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about six miles from Opua by recently formed cart-road.

Section 2, Block VIII: Area, 707 acres 2 roods 29 perches. Capital value, £710. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £17 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £14 4s.

Altitude, 40 ft. to 450 ft. above sea-level. Undulating and hilly land, about one-third fern and manuka scrub; balance heavy manuka and mixed forest comprising totara, puriri, rimu, towai, taraire, kohekohe, mamaku, rewarewa, manuka, and a few kauri-trees, with medium undergrowth of puka, kohutuhutu, mahoe, hangehange, punga, nikau, supplejack, &c. Soil of fair and poor quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about four miles from Opua by recently formed cart-road.

Section 3, Block VIII: Area, 513 acres. Capital value, £380. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £9 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £7 12s.

Section 4, Block VIII: Area, 416 acres 1 rood 20 perches. Capital value, £290. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £7 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £5 16s.

Altitude, 40 ft. to 455 ft. above sea-level. Undulating and hilly land, about two-thirds covered with fern and manuka; balance heavy manuka and mixed forest comprising totara, puriri, rimu, towai, taraire, kohekohe, mamaku, rewarewa, and manuka, with medium undergrowth of puka, kohutuhutu, mahoe, hangehange, punga, nikau, supplejack, &c. Soil of rather poor quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about three miles from Opua by formed cart-road.

Section 5, Block XII: Area, 604 acres. Capital value, £380. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £9 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £7 12s.

Altitude, 10 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land covered with fern and scrub, with a few acres
