Opotiki County.—Waiawa Survey District.
Section 1, Block XI: Area, 345 acres. Capital value, £710. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £17 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £14 4s.
Altitude, 1,100 ft. to 2,400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, with good homestead-site of about 80 acres fairly level country; all covered with mixed forest comprising tawa, matai, rimu, &c., and black birch on tops of ridges, with thick undergrowth of punga, supplejack, makomako, and scrub. Soil of good quality, on sandstone formation; fairly watered by small streams. Distant about twenty-four miles from Opotiki, of which about fourteen miles is by formed cart-road, balance formed bridle-track, or about eleven miles from Toatoa butter-factory and post-office by formed road, part dray-road and part bridle-track.
Bay of Islands County.—Kerikeri Survey District.
Section 5, Block III, and Sections 1 and 2, Block VII: Area, 649 acres 0 roods 15 perches. Capital value, £330. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £8 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 12s.
Weighted with £60, for improvements comprising small house and fencing, partly damaged.
Altitude, 1 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating and hilly land covered with fern and manuka, with hakea intermixed; there is a considerable amount of rough feed on Sections 2 and 5. Soil of inferior quality, on clay subsoil; well watered by streams. Distant from Waipapa Landing about six miles, or seven miles from Kerikeri Landing by fair cart-road.
Hokianga County.—Tutamoe Survey District.
Section 2, Block X: Area, 677 acres 0 roods 6 perches. Capital value, £630. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £15 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £12 12s.
Weighted with £54 for about 27 acres felled and grassed.
Altitude, 1,750 ft. to 2,213 ft. above sea-level. About 50 acres undulating, balance broken; all covered with mixed forest comprising towai, tawa, rata, miro, taraire, and a few totara-trees, with dense undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, ferns, &c. Soil inferior to medium, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Situated about ten miles from Kaihu by cart-road in poor repair

Opening National Endowment Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection by Discharged Soldiers on Renewable Lease.
LIVERPOOL, Governor-General.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto, which have been set apart for selection by discharged soldiers, shall be open for selection by discharged soldiers on renewable lease on Monday, the twenty-sixth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.
Waitemata County.—Waipareira Parish.
Section 241: Area, 9 acres 3 roods 22 perches; capital value, £110; half-yearly rent, £2 4s.
Altitude, 100 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with light scrub and fern. Soil brown loam, on clay subsoil; poorly watered. Access by good formed road, about three miles and three-quarters from Henderson and three miles from Swanson.
Section 248: Area, 12 acres 3 roods 15 perches; capital value, £160; half-yearly rent, £3 4s.
Altitude, 40 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating country, covered with fern and manuka, all ploughable. Soil a stiff loam, on clay subsoil; fairly watered by swampy stream. Distant about three miles from Henderson by good formed cart-road, metalled to within a quarter of a mile of section.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Tauranga County.—Tauranga Survey District.
Section 1, Block VIII: Area, 170 acres 2 roods; capital value, £220; half-yearly rent, £4 8s.
Altitude, 60 ft. to 350 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with fern and manuka scrub. Soil of fair quality, of a sandy nature, on pumice formation; well watered by springs and Te Puna Stream. Distant about eleven miles from Tauranga by formed road.
Section 2, Block VIII: Area, 196 acres 1 rood; capital value, £170; half-yearly rent, £3 8s.
Section 3, Block VIII: Area, 237 acres; capital value, £120; half-yearly rent, £2 8s.
Altitude, 60 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. About 50 acres of Section 2 and 30 acres of Section 3 undulating, balance broken; about 20 acres of light mixed forest comprising rewarewa, kohekohe, &c., in each section, balance fern and manuka. Soil fair on Section 2, poor on Section 3, on pumice formation; well watered by Te Puna and small streams. Section 2 distant about eleven miles and a half from Tauranga by formed road; Section 3 distant about ten miles and a half from Tauranga, about nine miles and a half of which is by main coach-road, balance unformed.
Section 4, Block VIII: Area, 299 acres; capital value £300; half-yearly rent, £6.
Altitude, 50 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, about 20 acres light mixed forest, balance fern and scrub. Soil of fair quality, on pumice formation; well watered by Te Puna Stream and small streams. Distant about eight miles and a half from Tauranga by road formed to within about half a mile of section.
Section 5, Block VIII: Area, 191 acres; capital value, £100; half-yearly rent, £2.
Altitude, 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. About 50 acres undulating, balance broken; fern and manuka country, with about 20 acres light mixed forest. Soil of poor quality; well watered by small stream. Distant about ten miles from Tauranga, nine miles and a half of which is by formed road, and half a mile unformed.
Section 6, Block VIII: Area, 132 acres; capital value, £120; half-yearly rent, £2 8s.
Altitude, 400 ft. to 750 ft. above sea-level. Undulating fern and manuka country. Soil of fair quality, on pumice formation; poorly watered by small stream. Distant about ten miles from Tauranga by formed road.
Section 7, Block VIII: Area, 174 acres; capital value, £110; half-yearly rent, £2 4s.
Altitude, 150 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. About 70 acres undulating on south boundary, balance broken country covered with fern and scrub. Soil good on undulating portion, poor on broken land; fairly watered by small stream. Distant about nine miles from Tauranga by formed road.
Section 8, Block VIII: Area, 75 acres; capital value, £130; half-yearly rent, £2 12s.
Altitude, 50 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to level land, covered with fern, scrub, and gorse. Good soil, on pumice formation; fairly well watered by swampy stream. Distant about seven miles and a half from Tauranga by coach-road, except the last ten chains, which is unformed.
