The appointment of Lieutenant (on probation) George Milne Spence is confirmed, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913.

2nd Lieutenant Digory Warne Pearse, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, with effect from 22nd September, 1917, and is absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 29th April, 1916 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 54, of the 4th May, 1916).

MEMORANDUM.

New Zealand Expeditionary Force.

Lieutenant (Honorary Captain) Thomas John Linton Buxton ceases to act as Ship’s Quartermaster on H.M.N.Z. Transports, as from the 9th June, 1917, and retains the honorary rank of Captain until further notice.

Special Order made by the Hawera County Council altering Ridings and readjusting Representation.

THE following special order, made by the Hawera County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1908.

HAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Special Order.

NOTICE is hereby given that at a special meeting of the Hawera County Council held on Saturday, the 9th day of June, 1917, a resolution was passed, under sections 23, 25, and 60 of the Counties Act, 1908, and submitted for confirmation as a special order at a special meeting of the Council held on Saturday, the 11th day of August, 1917, at 11 a.m., at the office of the County Council in Princes Street, Hawera.

The effect of the said resolution is—

  1. The present division of the county into four ridings is revoked, and in lieu thereof the county shall be divided into three ridings, to be called respectively Hawera Riding, Ararata Riding, and Mokoia Riding.

The Hawera and Ararata Ridings shall comprise the whole of the Hawera and Ararata Ridings respectively as they existed immediately before the passing of the said special order. The Mokoia Riding shall comprise the whole of the Mokoia and Meremere Ridings respectively as they existed immediately before the passing of the said special order.

  1. In lieu of six members the said Hawera County Council shall consist of eight members, who shall be elected as follows : The electors of the Hawera and Mokoia Ridings shall each elect three Councillors, and the electors of the Ararata Riding shall elect two Councillors.

  2. The alterations made by the said special order in the ridings and in the number of the Council and in the number of members of the said ridings respectively shall take effect at the general election of Councillors to be held in the month of November, 1917, except in so far and to such extent as may be necessary for preparing any roll or otherwise providing for that election.

SCHEDULE.

Mokoia Riding.

Bounded on the north-west generally by the Ararata Riding from Patea River to the Hawera Borough boundary, on the west by the Hawera Borough boundary and the Hawera Riding, on the south-west by the Tasman Sea, on the south-east generally by the Patea County, and on the north generally by the Eltham County from its junction with Eltham and Patea Counties to point of commencement of Ararata Riding at the Patea River.

I certify that the above special order has been submitted to me for approval, and that the description of the boundaries of the proposed Mokoia Riding of the Hawera County is sufficient for my requirements.
