dred and nineteen thereof shall, mutatis mutandis, apply
in the case of the construction or reconstruction of the road,
and the provisions of section one hundred and twenty in the
case of the maintenance of the road :
And whereas a dispute has arisen between the local autho-
rities hereinafter mentioned on the question of the main-
tenance of the road hereinafter mentioned: And whereas
by the said section one hundred and twenty it is, inter alia,
provided that the Governor-General may, with a view of
determining what proportion (if any) of the cost of main-
taining, repairing, improving, or reconstructing any work
should be borne by any local authority, direct any Magis-
trate or other person to be a Commissioner to inquire into
and report to him upon any matter which he shall deem
necessary to enable him to determine any such question as
aforesaid :
And whereas a Commissioner was appointed for the pur-
pose aforesaid, and an inquiry was duly held :
And whereas such Commissioner did report to the Go-
vernor-General, after due inquiry, his opinion thereon :
And whereas the Governor-General is of opinion that it
is equitable that the cost of maintaining, repairing, improv-
ing, or reconstructing the roads mentioned in the Schedule
hereto should be provided and paid in the manner and in
the proportion hereinafter set forth :
Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl
of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and autho-
rity vested in me by the said Act, do hereby direct that from
and after the date of this Warrant the cost of maintaining,
repairing, improving, or reconstructing the road described
in the Schedule hereto between the Mount Hutt Road Board
and the Selwyn County Council shall be borne in the follow-
ing proportions—viz., the Mount Hutt Road Board shall
pay fourteen per centum and the Selwyn County Council
eighty-six per centum of such cost respectively. And I do
hereby direct that any contribution hereby required to be
made as aforesaid by the Mount Hutt Road Board shall be
paid from time to time out of the funds of the said Board,
within a period of thirty days after demand in writing made
by or on behalf of the Selwyn County Council, and such
payments shall be made from time to time to the Clerk of
the said Council for and on account of such Road Board.
SCHEDULE.
ALL those roads, situated in the Canterbury Land District,
Selwyn County, known as Coalgate—Lake Coleridge and
Peak Hill Roads, commencing at the bridge over the Selwyn
River, and proceeding thence generally in a southerly and
north-westerly direction to the Iron Store near the conflu-
ence of the Wilberforce and Rakaia Rivers; being a distance
of 40 miles 17 chains, more or less. As the said roads are
more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D.
42135, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works
at Wellington, in the Wellington Provincial District, and
thereon coloured red.

General, this third day of August, one thousand
nine hundred and seventeen.

PURSUANT to the authority vested in me by section
sixty-five of the Cook Islands Act, 1915, and by an
Order in Council of the twenty-first day of March, one thou-
sand nine hundred and sixteen, establishing Island Councils
in the Cook Islands and determining the constitution thereof,
I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool,
Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do
hereby nominate and appoint
DAVE,
MATAPO, and
TEARIA ROA
to be members of the Island Council of Mauke.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, this fourth day of August, one thousand
nine hundred and seventeen.

of the Peace Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile,
Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of
New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that

being a person holding the office of Postmaster under the
Post and Telegraph Act, 1908, at Reef ton, is authorized to
take and receive statutory declarations under the two-
hundred-and-eighty-eighth section of the Justices of the
