THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—

to be Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, and Vaccination Inspector for the District of Ross, as from the 31st July, 1917;
WILLIAM CANNING
to be Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, and Vaccination Inspector for the District of Waverley, as from the 1st August, 1917.

Appointments, Promotions, Resignations, and Transfers of Officers of the New Zealand Staff Corps, Staff, and Territorial Force.

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the appointments, promotions, resignations, and transfers of the undermentioned officers of the Staff and Territorial Force.
NEW ZEALAND STAFF CORPS.
Lieutenant (temp. Captain) Digby Edward Garrow Cardale to be Captain. Dated 8th June, 1917.
STAFF.
Captain Ferdinand August Wood, M.C., New Zealand Staff Corps, is appointed Mounted Rifle Instructor (on probation), Featherston Camp. Dated 30th July, 1917.
The notification in the N.Z. Gazette No. 98, of the 14th June, 1917, relating to Honorary Major James O’Sullivan, is cancelled, and the following substituted: Honorary Major James O’Sullivan, attached to the New Zealand Staff Corps, relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Inspector, Equipment and Ordnance Stores, and is posted to the Retired List, with permission to retain his rank and wear the prescribed uniform. Dated 30th April, 1917.
4TH (WAIKATO) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain Thomas Paterson to be Major, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 26th July, 1917.
Sergeant Ewen John McGregor to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 26th July, 1917.
.5TH MOUNTED RIFLES (OTAGO HUSSARS).
2nd Lieutenant Edgar Thomson Shand is appointed Adjutant (on probation) to the Otago University Officers’ Training Corps, and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant whilst so employed, vice Captain F. A. Wood, M.C., New Zealand Staff Corps. Dated 30th July, 1917.
7TH (SOUTHLAND) MOUNTED RIFLES.
John Carmichael Shand to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 25th July, 1917.
10TH (NELSON) MOUNTED RIFLES.
Captain Daniel Willis Talbot is appointed President, Courts-martial and Courts of Inquiry, N.Z. Expeditionary Force training camps. Dated 4th January, 1917.
CORPS OF NEW ZEALAND ENGINEERS.
Divisional Signal Companies.
Sergeant Norman McLeod French to be 2nd Lieutenant (temp.), No. 2 Company, Otago. Dated 25th July, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND RAILWAY BATTALIONS.
Lieutenant Robert Leslie Jamieson is dismissed His Majesty’s Service by sentence of a General Court-martial. Dated 1st May, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND POST AND TELEGRAPH CORPS.
North Island.
Lieutenant James Macmoran to be Captain, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913, with seniority next below Captain C. J. W. Lockie. Dated 23rd March, 1917.
Lieutenant Charles Edward Reid to be Captain, under the provisions of paragraph 111, General Regulations, 1913. Dated 23rd March, 1917.
1ST (CANTERBURY) REGIMENT.
Lieutenant Hugh Stewart, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, late 6th (King’s Liverpool) Regiment, is taken on the strength of the regiment, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority next below Lieutenant John Lawson Turnbull. Dated 1st September, 1914.
5TH (WELLINGTON) REGIMENT.
The notification published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 34, of the 22nd February, 1917, and No. 120, of the 26th July, 1917, relating to 2nd Lieutenant (temp.) William Henry Neville Amos, are cancelled.
William Henry Neville Amos to be Lieutenant (temp.). Dated 28th November, 1916.
Honorary Lieutenant Thomas Joseph Davis (Retired List) is posted to the regiment for duty, with the temporary rank of Captain whilst so employed. Dated 23rd July, 1917.
11TH REGIMENT (TARANAKI RIFLES).
Major John Wallace Brunt is appointed Camp Adjutant, Tauherenikau Camp. Dated 17th April, 1917.
15TH (NORTH AUCKLAND) REGIMENT.
The commission granted Lieutenant Nowlan Francis Knight is cancelled, under the provisions of section 5 (a) of the Defence Act, 1919. Dated 22nd June, 1917.
16TH (WAIKATO) REGIMENT.
The appointment of Lieutenant Reginald Henry Macdonald is terminated, he having been granted a commission in the Imperial Army. Dated 20th July, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND ARMY SERVICE CORPS.
2nd Lieutenant (on probation), (temp. Lieutenant) Frederick Charles Gentry is granted the temporary rank of Captain whilst employed as Officer in Charge Supplies, Buckle Street. Dated 21st July, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND FORCES MOTOR SERVICE CORPS.
Motor-car Section, Otago.
Lieutenant Denniston Cuthbertson resigns his commission. Dated 12th June, 1917.
William Reginald Hudson to be 2nd Lieutenant (on probation). Dated 17th July, 1917.
Motor-car Section, Auckland.
Lieutenant James Marsden Caughey is appointed District Railway Transport Officer, Auckland Military District. Dated 1st July, 1917.
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL CORPS.
The undermentioned are appointed members of a Special District Medical Board, and granted the pay of Lieutenant-Colonel at Expeditionary Force rates whilst so acting:—
Captain Peter Gow, M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., Lond. Dated 20th June, 1917.
Captain William Stewart, M.B., B.S., Glasg. Dated 11th July, 1917.
Captain Stanley Eric Vincent Brown, M.B., B.S., N.Z., F.R.C.S., Eng. Dated 11th July, 1917.
Captain Dugald George Matheson, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., Lieutenant, as from 1st November, 1915 (vide N.Z. Gazette No. 128, of the 11th November, 1915); to date from 24th July, 1917.
