ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded towards the north generally by Waitemata Harbour from the Whau River to the Tamaki River; thence towards the east generally by the Tamaki River and the Otahuhu Creek to Portage Road; thence towards the south by Portage Road to Manukau Harbour; thence towards the west and again towards the south by Manukau Harbour to the Borough of Onehunga; thence by that borough and again by Manukau Harbour to the western side of Portage Road at Karaka Bay; thence towards the west by the western side of Portage Road to the Town District of New Lynn, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of the 23rd June, 1910, page 1789, and by that town district to the Whau Bridge; and thence across and by the Whau River to Waitemata Harbour, the place of commencement: excluding the City of Auckland, the Boroughs of Newmarket, Mount Eden, and Mount Albert, and the Town District of Ellerslie.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.

PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that a poll of ratepayers of the Tolaga Riding of the County of Cook was taken on the 10th day of July, 1917, on the proposal of the Cook County Council to borrow the sum of £12,000 for completing Tolaga Bridge, erection of Wigan Bridge, and construction of the East Coast Road.

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 164, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 6. I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

WHANGAREI COUNTY COUNCIL.

IN pursuance of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and its amendments, public notice is hereby given that a poll of ratepayers of the special-rating area of the Manaia Riding held on the 6th day of July, 1917, on the proposal to borrow £9,000 for the purpose of forming, bridging, and metalling the Whangarei—Whangarei Heads Road, resulted as follows: Total number of votes polled, 82; total votes in favour of proposal, 51; total votes against proposal, 31.

And, as there were more than three-fifths of the total number of votes polled in favour of the proposal, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Rights-of-way over Railway Reserve and over Railway-line by means of Overhead Bridges in favour of William Henry Coad assented to.


In the matter of the Public Works Act, 1908; and in the matter of grants of rights-of-way over the railway reserve and over the railway-line by means of overhead bridges to William Henry Coad, of Whangarata, farmer, as part compensation for land taken for railway purposes.

WHEREAS by Proclamation published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 45, of 5th June, 1913, page 1850, and deposited in the District Land Registration Office at Auckland as No. 3238, all that parcel of land containing 15 acres 2 roods 21 perches, more or less, part of Section 10, Block I, Maramarua Survey District, Mangatawhiri Parish, Manukau County, was taken for the purposes of the Kaipara-Waikato Railway: And whereas the said William Henry Coad is the person entitled to the compensation payable for or in respect of the said land: And whereas the Minister of Railways has agreed to grant to the said William Henry Coad rights-of-way over the railway reserve and over the railway-line by means of overhead bridges as part satisfaction and mitigation of the compensation so payable as aforesaid, in respective positions to be approved by the District Railway Engineer:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Minister of Railways, do hereby give notice, in pursuance of the provisions of section 84 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that memoranda of agreements dated the 12th day of March, 1917, agreeing to grant such rights-of-way over the railway reserve and over the railway-line by means of overhead bridges to the said William Henry Coad, his heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, and successors, have been assented to by me.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Fancy-goods Shops in the Borough of Wanganui, under the Shops and Offices Act.


WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fancy-goods shops within the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evenings of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and Fridays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(a) Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, when the closing-hours shall be 11 p.m.; (b) the last fourteen working-days in the month of December of each year, excluding Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (hereinbefore provided for), when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.; (c) the Thursday and Saturday preceding and the Thursday following Easter Monday in each year, when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.; (d) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding any day on which and the evening of each of the working-days whereon any race meeting or trotting meeting is held in Wanganui under the auspices of the Wanganui Jockey Club and of the Wanganui Trotting Club respectively, when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.; (e) the evening of the working-day immediately preceding and the evening of any working-day whereon the public are admitted to any show held in Wanganui under the auspices of the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association, when the closing-hour shall be 9.30 p.m.: And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the fancy-goods shops within the Borough of Wanganui:

Now, therefore, I, William Herbert Herries, Acting for the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 30th day of July, 1917, all fancy-goods shops in the Borough of Wanganui shall be closed as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and Fridays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions—(a) the last fourteen working-days in the month of December of each year (except
