  1. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in these regulations, agricultural bursaries may be awarded without limit of age to students who have satisfactorily completed a course of at least one year at a training college for teachers, and in such cases the tenure of the bursary shall be for one year or two years, as the Minister of Education shall determine.

  2. (1.) An agricultural bursary shall be of the annual value of £20, in addition to the amount of the tuition fees (if any) payable by the holder thereof in respect of the approved course of instruction.

(2.) If the holder of a bursary is obliged to live away from home in order to carry out the required course of instruction, he shall, in addition to the amount of the bursary and fees as aforesaid, receive a further allowance at the rate of £30 per annum.

(3.) If board and lodging are provided at the institution attended there shall be deducted from the amounts named in subclauses (1) and (2) an amount in payment therefor not exceeding £40 per annum.

  1. An agricultural bursary shall not be tenable with a University Junior Scholarship or any other scholarship, bursary, or exhibition of the value of £20 a year or upwards.

  2. If at any time the Director or Manager of the farm or institution at which the agricultural bursary is held reports that the holder has failed regularly to carry out the courses of agriculture required, or has failed to make satisfactory progress in the work, the Minister may forthwith determine the bursary, unless he is satisfied that such failure was due to illness or other sufficient cause; and on such determination no further payment or allowance under the regulations shall be made to the holder of such bursary.

Tapanui District Patriotic Society incorporated under the War Funds Act, 1915.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this sixteenth day of January, 1917.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE JAMES ALLEN PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section twelve of the War Funds Act, 1915 (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor may, by Order in Council gazetted, incorporate a society possessing a war fund, or the trustees of such fund: And whereas application, in writing addressed to the Minister, has been made by the Tapanui District Patriotic Society (being a society possessing a war fund), praying for the incorporation of that society:

And whereas it is considered desirable to grant such application:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby order and declare that the society known as the Tapanui District Patriotic Society is hereby incorporated for the purposes of the said Act as from the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, and shall be known as the “Tapanui District Patriotic Society.”

Regulations for Deer-shooting, North Canterbury Acclimatization District.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “the said Act”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the North Canterbury Acclimatization District, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.


REGULATIONS.

  1. RED-DEER stags may be taken or killed within the North Canterbury Acclimatization District from the 2nd day of April, 1917, to the 10th day of May, 1917 (both days inclusive).

  2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch, upon the recommendation of the secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatization Society, on payment of a license fee of £5, in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. The number of such licenses to be issued by the said Chief Postmaster shall not exceed ten. Provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person; and also that if the number of applications received for licenses exceeds the number of available licenses, then the persons to whom such licenses are to be issued shall be decided by ballot.

  3. No licensee shall take or kill more than three stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. Ball cartridge only to be used; provided that no metal-patched or metal-cased bullet shall be used for killing such deer.

  4. No hind or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him.

  5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof.

  6. Regulations as to deer “tags,” per New Zealand Gazette No. 40, Vol. I, of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused “tags” to the Secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatization Society, Christchurch, immediately he has finished stalking for the season for which such “tags” have been issued, together with a statement of the number of deer shot.

  7. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £20.
