GENERAL LIST.
2nd Lieutenant Thomas Archibald Clark is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant whilst employed as Bayonet-fighting Instructor in New Zealand Expeditionary Force Training Camps. Dated 1st June, 1917.
Lieutenant William Downie Stewart, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 1st January, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 5, of the 20th January, 1916); to date from 30th June, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Dawson Thomas Herbert, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 1st January, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 5, of the 20th January, 1916); to date from 30th June, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Oswald Lovell Ferens, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 10th August, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 89, of the 17th August, 1916); to date from 4th July, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Sydney Percival Abbott, N.Z. Expeditionary Force, is struck off the strength, and absorbed with his original rank and seniority—viz., 2nd Lieutenant, as from 1st January, 1916 (vide New Zealand Gazette No. 5, of the 20th January, 1916); dated 24th May, 1917.
Kelvin Henry Smith to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 24th May, 1917.
2nd Lieutenant Francis Llewellyn Barker is dismissed the service by sentence of a General Court-martial, to date from 24th May, 1917.
MEMORANDA.
Captain Frederick Boulton Hughes is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 30th June, 1917.
Captain Arthur Loftus Tottenham is struck off the strength of the N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Dated 31st January, 1917.
ERRATUM.
The notification in the New Zealand Gazette No. 91, of the 31st May, 1917, relating to “2nd Lieutenant James Philip Jarrett” should read “2nd Lieutenant John Philip Jarrett.”

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Manurewa Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

Joint Special Loan.
PURSUANT to the provisions of section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that the following is the result of a poll of ratepayers of the special area of the above Board taken on the 17th day of May, 1917, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £2,000 for the purpose of forming and metalling approaches to high-level bridge at the northern end of the Manurewa Station: The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 10, and the number of votes against the proposal was 1.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice of Result of Poll on Proposal to raise a Loan.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that on the 28th day of February, 1917, a proposal was submitted by the Otaki Town Board to the ratepayers of the Otaki Town District for raising a special loan of £9,500 for the purpose of installing an electric-lighting scheme; and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For the proposal, 110; against the proposal, 108; invalid, 1.
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops in the Borough of Wanganui, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Wanganui, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough, save and except that shop established at 55 Guyton Street, in the Borough of Wanganui, for the sale of medicines and surgical appliances that are urgently needed, be closed in the evenings of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 o’clock p.m., on Fridays at 9.30 o’clock p.m., and on Saturdays (the weekly half-holiday) at 8.45 o’clock p.m. :
And whereas the Wanganui Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui:
And whereas I, William Herbert Herries, Acting Minister of Labour, am satisfied that all the occupiers of the chemists’ shops in the Borough of Wanganui affected by section 3 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1915, have been afforded an equal right to share in the profits of the business carried on by such specified shop:
