Notice to Mariners No. 66 of 1916.

PROTECTED ANCHORAGE IN MANUKAU HARBOUR.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 18th August, 1916.

THE Auckland Harbour Board has notified that it has set aside an area in Manukau Harbour, as defined below, as a protected anchorage for yachts and launches.

AREA.

That area bounded by a line starting at a beacon on the foreshore, thence running south 8° west (magnetic) for a distance of 2,695 ft., thence north 48° east 1,347 ft., and thence north 22° west 1,897 ft. to the starting-point. The above area will be marked by two small black buoys and one white beacon.

Notice to Mariners No. 67 of 1916.

SHEARER ROCK BUOY OF TIRITIRI ISLAND TO BE MOVED.

NOTICE is hereby given that owing to the existence of a shoal to the eastward of Shearer Rock (see Notice to Mariners No. 45, of 5th June, 1916) the buoy marking the Shearer Rock will within the next few days be moved outward over the shoal with only 25 ft. of water over it, 1¼ miles east of south extreme of Tiritiri Island.

From the 25 ft. rock, south-east extreme of Tiritiri Island bears 268° (S. 73° W. magnetic) and Shag Rock (20 ft. rock) 317° (N. 58° W. magnetic).

Notice to Mariners No. 68 of 1916.

LIGHT ON MERCURY BAY WHARF.—WHITIANGA HARBOUR.

NOTICE is hereby given that a white light visible all round the horizon is now exhibited from the Kauri Timber Company’s Wharf in Whitianga Harbour, Mercury Bay.

QUEENSLAND.

RED LIGHT, EASTERN BREAKWATER.—TOWNSVILLE HARBOUR.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on the 21st August, 1916, the pile dolphin off the end of the Eastern Breakwater, Townsville Harbour, and which now carries the red light, will be removed, and the light will be thereafter exhibited from an iron skeleton stand fixed on the extreme end of the Eastern Breakwater, N. 82° E. (mag.) 100 ft. from the present position.

Charts affected: Nos. 348 and 1102, “Australia Directory,” Vol. II.

VICTORIA.

DEEPENING OF THE FAIRWAY, PORT PHILLIP HEADS.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that, consequent upon blasting operations at Port Phillip Heads, the navigable channel has been deepened to 40 ft. at low water for a width of 1,000 ft. eastward of the line of leading-lights, and extending from the line of leading-lights to the line of the Obelisk and High Light.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.

SPENCER GULF.—PORT AUGUSTA.

Masters of vessels and others are hereby informed of the existence of a pinnacle rock in the channel above Port Augusta Harbour, having over it 1 ft. 6 in. at L.W.S., with 16 ft. close to on the eastern side.

This rock bears from the eastern corner of the wharf 29° (N. 24° E. mag.), distant 4¾ cables, and is marked on its eastern side by a black buoy surmounted by staff and diamond in 16 ft. at L.W.S.

Approximate position: Lat. 32° 29′ S., long. 137° 46¼′ E.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389 and 401.

LONG POINT, WALLAROO AND TIPARA BAYS.

Also that the red pile beacon with circular top, marking Walrus Rock, off Long Point, has been removed 4½ cables south-eastward of its former position, and is now in a position 1 cable N.W. from the western extreme of the rock, in 10 ft. at L.W.S.

Approximate position: Lat. 33° 59½′ S., long. 137° 30′ E.
This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389 and 402.


CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Reserves in Nelson Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Nelson, 14th August, 1916.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned reserves will be offered for lease by public auction at the local Lands and Survey Office, Westport, at 11 o’clock a.m. on Wednesday, 27th September, 1916, under the provisions of the Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Act, 1877, and amendments.

SCHEDULE.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—WESTPORT COLLIERY RESERVE.—BULLER COUNTY.—TOWN OF WESTPORT.

SECTIONS 218 and 218A: Area, 3 roods 6 perches; upset yearly rent, £3 5s.

Section 219: Area, 1 rood 12 perches; upset yearly rent, £1 12s. 6d.

Section 1034: Area, 1 rood; upset yearly rent, £2 10s.

The sections are situated in the Town of Westport. Sections 218, 218A, and 219 are about half a mile, and Section 1034 about three-quarters of a mile, from the post-office.

Sections 218 and 218A are weighted with £300, valuation for improvements as follows: Dwelling, seven rooms (uncompleted), with usual outbuildings.

Section 219 is weighted with £100. Valuation for improvements as follows: Two-roomed dwelling, iron shed, &c.

Section 1034 is weighted with £200, valuation for improvements, as follows: Dwelling, hut, outhouses, &c.

ABSTRACT OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. The lease shall be for a term of forty-two years, without right of renewal.

  2. No compensation for improvements will be allowed, but on expiry of lease the new lease offered for disposal by public competition will be subject to payment by the incoming tenant of valuation for improvements; failing disposal, the land and improvements revert to the Crown without compensation.

  3. Possession will be given on the day of sale.

  4. Rent shall be payable half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st day of January and July in each year.

  5. The lessee will have no right to sublet, transfer, mortgage, subdivide, or otherwise dispose of the land comprised in the lease without consent.

  6. The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbrier on the land comprised in the lease; and he shall with all reasonable despatch remove, or cause to be removed, all gorse, sweetbrier, broom, or other noxious weeds or plants as may be directed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

  7. The lease will be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the said lease within
