Opening National Endowment Lands in Auckland Land District for Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-third day of October, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.-SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Waitomo County.-Orahiro Survey District.
SECTION 3A, Block V: Area, 164 acres; approximate rent per acre per annum, 1s. 5d.; capital value, £290; half-yearly rent, £5 16s.
Broken land, part burnt forest, remainder medium mixed forest comprising tawa, tawhero, rimu, rata, &c., with heavy undergrowth of makomako, supplejack, konini, &c. Soil of medium quality, on limestone formation; well watered by small streams. Distant fifteen miles from Hangatiki Railway-station by formed dray-road, twelve miles of which is metalled.
Hokianga County.-Waoku Survey District.
Section 3, Block XI: Area, 782 acres ; approximate rent per acre per annum, 6d.; capital value, £470; half-yearly rent, £9 8s.
Altitude, 2,000 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, towai, taraire, hinau, &c., with dense undergrowth of karamu, toro, neinei, patea, kauri-grass, supplejack, toikiwi, &c. Soil of fair second-class quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Distant twelve miles from Taheke by formed cart-road, and a short by-road unformed as yet. This section is on the border of what is locally known as "the wet area."
Section 12, Block XV: Area, 280 acres; approximate rent per acre per annum, 10d.; capital value, £295; half-yearly rent, £5 18s.
Section 13, Block XV: Area, 338 acres 2 roods; approximate rent per acre per annum, 10d.; capital value, £340; half-yearly rent, £6 16s.
Section 14, Block XV: Area, 315 acres ; approximate rent per acre per annum, 10d.; capital value, £320; half-yearly rent, £6 8s.
Section 15, Block XV: Area, 267 acres 2 roods; approximate rent per acre per annum, 10d.; capital value, £280; half-yearly rent, £5 12s.

Altitude, 600 ft. to 2,400 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rata, rimu, miro, towai, taraire, kohekohe, hinau, and a few totara, with dense undergrowth of karamu, mahoe, patea, kiekie, supplejack, kauri-grass, toikiwi, &c. Soil of fair quality, stony in places, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant six to seven miles from Waimamaku, five miles of which is fair cart-road, balance rough.
Section 17, Block XV: Area, 182 acres; approximate rent per acre per annum, 11d.; capital value, £205; half-yearly rent, £4 2s.
Altitude, 700 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rata, rimu, miro, towai, taraire, kohekohe, hinau, and a few totara, with dense undergrowth of karamu, mahoe, patea, kiekie, supplejack, kauri-grass, toikiwi, &c. Soil of fair quality, stony in places, on sandstone formation; well watered by stream. Distant six miles and three-quarters from Waimamaku, of which distance five miles is fair cart-road, one mile rough cart-road, balance sledge-track.

Altitude, 50 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. About 15 acres rich river-flat, worked-out kahikatea forest, balance undulating fern and manuka country. Soil rich loam and semi-volcanic, on blue-rock formation; well watered by Mangakahia River. Distant eighteen miles from Whangarei by cart-road, fourteen miles of which is metalled.
SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Waitemata County.-Paremuremo Parish.
Section 244: Area, 22 acres 0 roods 30 perches. Approximate rent per acre per annum, 4s. 6d. Capital value, £100. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £2 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £2.
Altitude, 100 ft. to 200 ft. above sea-level. Undulating country, all ploughable, covered with fern and manuka. Clay soil of medium quality, on sandstone formation; no surface water, but water can be obtained by sinking. Distant two miles and a half from Riverhead by formed road not metalled.
Hokianga County.-Waoku Survey District.
Section 23, Block XIV: Area, 276 acres 3 roods. Approximate rent per acre per annum, 1s. 2d. Capital value, £330. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £8 5s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 12s.
Altitude, 600 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rata, rimu, miro, towai, taraire, kohekohe, hinau, a few totara and one or two kauri trees, with dense undergrowth of karamu, mahoe, patea, kiekie, supplejack, kauri-grass, toikiwi, &c. Soil of fair quality, stony in places, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant a mile and a half from Waimamaku, a mile of which is by formed cart-road, balance unformed.
Section 24, Block XIV: Area, 294 acres. Approximate rent per acre per annum, 1s. 1d. Capital value, £340. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £8 10s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 16s.
Altitude, 350 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land; about 120 acres old kauri-workings, poorly grassed; balance mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, miro, towai, taraire, kohekohe, &c., with dense undergrowth of karamu, mahoe, supplejack, kiekie, patea, &c. Soil of fair quality, stony in places, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant two miles from Waimamaku by formed cart-road.

Section 1, Block X: Area, 623 acres 2 roods 38 perches. Approximate rent per acre per annum, 11d. Capital value, £560. Occupation with right of purchase: Half-yearly rent, £14. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £11 4s.
