Section 2.—Area, 768 acres. Altitude, from 1,200 ft. to
2,000 ft. Open agricultural and pastoral well-grassed coun-
try, with small patches of manuka scrub and light bush in
the gullies; comprising mostly easy undulating country,
intersected by deep bush gully; about half ploughable; well
watered. Fair to good soil, on pumice and clay, with lime-
stone outcrop. Distant about twenty-two miles from Napier
by road, twelve miles of which are unformed.
Section 3.—Area, 1,020 acres. Altitude, from 300 ft. to
1,800 ft. Open, pastoral, well-grassed country; comprising
steep slopes from the limestone range, with easy slopes and
terraces intersected by gullies to the Esk River, and good
homestead-site on top of the range, with some fern and
manuka scrub and patch of blackberry in the southern end.
Good soil, on clay and pumice, with limestone outcrop; well
watered. Distant twenty-two miles from Napier by road,
twelve miles of which are unformed.
Section 4.—Area, 630 acres. Altitude, from 1,000 ft. to
2,000 ft. Open, agricultural and pastoral, well grassed and
watered country; comprising generally easy undulating
country, partly ploughable, broken by steep bushy gullies;
light bush in the gullies, and some manuka scrub. Fair to
good soil, on pumice and clay, with limestone outcrop.
Distant twenty-two miles from Napier by road, twelve miles
of which are unformed.
Section 5.—Area, 474 acres. Altitude, from 900 ft. to
1,600 ft. Open, well grassed and watered pastoral country;
easy to steep slopes, and hills partly ploughable; intersected
by steep gullies, with patches of light bush and clumps of
manuka scrub. Good to fair soil, on clay and pumice, with
limestone outcrop. Distant twenty-three miles from Napier
by Wairoa Road, three miles of which are unformed.
Section 6.—Area, 467 acres. Altitude, from 900 ft. to
1,500 ft. Open, well grassed and watered, agricultural and
pastoral country; generally easy undulating, with steep
slopes to the streams that intersect it; about half ploughable,
with clumps of manuka scrub and light bush in gullies. Fair
to good soil, on pumice and clay, with limestone outcrop.
Distant twenty-one miles from Napier, eleven miles of which
are unformed.
Section 7.—Area, 492 acres. Altitude, from 800 ft. to
1,200 ft. Open, well grassed and watered, agricultural and
pastoral country; comprising a well-sheltered valley with
easy to steep slopes to the streams; patches of light bush and
manuka scrub in the gullies. Good soil, on clay, with lime-
stone outcrop; partly ploughable. Distant twenty-one miles
from Napier by road, eleven miles of which are unformed.
Block XVI, Maungaharuru Survey District.
Section 1.—Area, 563 acres. Altitude, from 400 ft. to
1,600 ft. Open pastoral country, well grassed and watered,
intersected by deep gullies; easy to steep slopes, partly
ploughable, with some fern, manuka, and small patches of
light bush; well sheltered. Fair to good soil, on pumice and
clay, with limestone outcrop. Distant about twenty-four
miles from Napier by Wairoa Road, four miles of which is
unformed.
Section 2.—Area, 578 acres. Altitude, from 300 ft. to
1,600 ft. Open pastoral country, comprising easy and steep
sunny faces, partly ploughable; about one-quarter in good
grass, remainder fern and manuka with grass; well watered.
Fair to good soil. Distant twenty-four miles from Napier
by Wairoa Road.
Section 3.—Area, 465 acres. Altitude, from 300 ft. to
1,600 ft. Open pastoral country, well grassed and watered,
comprising well-sheltered sunny slopes and face; the north-
eastern portion improved bush-country sown down in cocks-
foot, &c., with some second growth. Good soil, on clay and
pumice, with limestone outcrop. Distant twenty-two miles
from Napier by Wairoa Road, two miles of which is unformed.
Section 4.—Area, 560 acres. Altitude, from 200 ft. to
1,600 ft. Open pastoral country, comprising easy to steep
sunny faces and well-sheltered valleys; partly improved fern
and manuka with grass, and patches of light bush. Fair to
good soil, on clay and pumice, with limestone outcrop. Dis-
tant about twenty-three miles from Napier by Wairoa Road.
Section 5.—Area, 620 acres. Altitude, from 700 ft. to
1,400 ft. Open, agricultural and pastoral, easy undulating
country, partly ploughable; well watered and sheltered and
grassed. Fair to good soil, on pumice and clay, with lime-
stone outcrop. Distant about twenty miles from Napier by
main Wairoa Road.
Section 6.—Area, 565 acres. Altitude, from 100 ft. to
1,300 ft. Open pastoral country, well watered and grassed,
comprising broken, steep, and precipitous sunny faces to the
intersecting Wairoa Road, with easier slopes to the Waikoau
Stream. Fair to good soil, on clay, with limestone outcrop.
Distant about twenty-one miles from Napier by main Wairoa
Road.
Block XII, Maungaharuru Survey District.
Section 2.—Area, 880 acres. Altitude, from 400 ft. to
1,900 ft. Open pastoral country, comprising easy slopes and
ridges; mostly well grassed, with some manuka and fern.
Poor to good soil, on pumice and clay. Distant twenty-five
miles from Napier by Wairoa Road, five miles of which is
unformed.

Lands in Nelson Land District for Sale or Lease to Discharged Soldiers.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Nelson, 4th August, 1916.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands
are open for sale or lease to discharged soldiers under
the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regula-
tions thereunder; and applications will be received at this
office up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday, 11th October, 1916.
The lands may be purchased for cash or on deferred pay-
ments, or selected on lease for sixty-six years, with right of
renewal for further successive terms of sixty-six years and a
right to acquire the freehold.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board
for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office,
Nelson, on Thursday, 12th October, 1916, at 10 o'clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination
of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.—WAIMEA COUNTY.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Hope Survey District.
SECTION 10, Block VII: Area, 1,173 acres; capital value,
£1,150; instalment on deferred payment (without interest),
£57 10s.; half-yearly rent on lease, £23.
About 100 acres good flat ground, with heavy clay soil,
and about 150 acres easy slopes; balance hilly country
rising to an altitude of about 2,000 ft. from 1,400 ft. in Cow
Creek. All good pastoral country. Bush chiefly brown and
red birch; underscrub dense in main valley and light on
the spurs. Well watered by permanent streams. Access by
proposed road up Cow Creek.
Section 2, Block VIII: Area, 1,400 acres; capital value,
£1,160; instalment on deferred payment (without interest),
£58; half-yearly rent on lease, £23 4s.
Altitude, from about 1,400 ft. to 2,400 ft. Country runs
from easy slopes to rough, broken country, about 300 acres
being rough and inferior; balance is fair sheep-country.
Bush brown and red birch.
Wai-iti Survey District.
Sections 14, 15, and 16, Block X: Area, 248 acres 2 roods
11 perches; capital value, £320; instalment on deferred
payment (without interest), £16; half-yearly rent on lease,
£6 8s.
All low hills; about 120 acres have been burnt and grassed;
balance green bush, milling-timber recently cut out. Land
suitable for pastoral purposes. Situated about fifteen miles
from Wakefield Railway-station by dray-road, and a mile
and a half by unformed road.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned
pastoral runs are open for license under the provi-
sions of the Land Act, 1908, and its amendments; and
applications will be received at the District Lands and
Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o'clock p.m. on Monday,
25th September, 1916.
Applicants will have to appear personally before the Land
Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey
Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 27th September, at 11
o'clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the same place at the conclusion
of the examination of applicants.
Preference will be given to soldiers (either discharged or
on active service), and to landless applicants who have
children dependent on them or who have within the preced-
