Goods prohibited to be imported to the United Kingdom.

IT is notified for general information that a Proclamation was issued on the 28th July, 1916, by the Imperial Government prohibiting the importation to the United Kingdom, except under license of the Board of Trade, of the undermentioned goods, in addition to those enumerated in lists dated 30th May, 1916, 12th June, 1916, and 10th July, 1916, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 1st June, 1916, 15th June, 1916, and 20th July, 1916, respectively:—
Oranges, except produce of British Dominions.
Air guns and rifles.
Sporting-guns, carbines, and rifles.
Cocaine.
Opium.

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Minister of Customs has granted general permission to import into New Zealand unset diamonds sent direct from France per registered post.

Government Offices to be closed on Monday, 25th September (Dominion Day).

AS provided under Public Service Regulations, the Government Offices throughout New Zealand will be closed on Monday, the 25th September, 1916, in celebration of the ninth anniversary of the day on which the Colony New Zealand was created a Dominion.

Public Service Stores Tender Board.—Supply and Delivery of Stores.
Wellington, 2nd August, 1916.
TENDERS will be received at the office of the Chairman, General Post Office, Wellington, not later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the 11th October, 1916, for the supply and delivery, C.I.F. and E., main ports, of 1,000 extension bells, 5 tons marline, 4,000,000 lead seals, and 208 reams of brown paper.
Particulars and conditions of tendering may be obtained at the office of the Controller of Stores, Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington; the District Storekeeper, Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch; or at the offices of the Telegraph Engineers at Auckland and Dunedin.

THE Naval Board, Melbourne, notify that—

Less water has been found to exist to the southward of the limits of the dredged channel than is shown on Chart No. 1700, Fremantle Harbour and Gage Roads, Western Australia.

The safe navigation of deep-draught vessels can therefore only be assured by strictly adhering to the dredged channel provided for this purpose.

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Surveyors’ Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors’ Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for licenses to survey, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday, 18th September, 1916, at Wellington.
Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than noon on the 9th September, and that the examination fee of £1 1s. must be paid, at least seven days before the date of the examination, to the Secretary of the Board, from whom examination regulations, application forms, and other particulars may be obtained.
The amount of postage must also be remitted if plans and field-books are desired to be returned.

Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

Applicants must be registered nurses, preferably also registered midwives.
The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.
The position will be graded in the General Division, Salary, minimum £150, maximum £200.
