Applications invited for the Position of Surveyor of Ships (2), Marine Department, Auckland.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 3rd August, 1916.

A PPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 2nd September, 1916, for the position of Surveyor of Ships (2), Marine Department, Auckland.

  1. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. The duties to be performed will include the survey of ships, the inspection of all gear used in the working of cargo, the enforcement of the regulations for the protection of life and property on ships, and generally to perform such duties in regard to ships as may be required by the Marine Department.

  3. Applicants must hold a certificate of competency as master ordinary or extra master, and must have had command of a vessel or vessels.

  4. Applicants must have had experience in handling cargo. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the Professional Division. Salary, minimum £260, maximum £310.

The excess of the departures from New Zealand over the arrivals therein during the month of July, 1916, was therefore 87 persons, as against 396 in the corresponding month of 1915.

  • It is important to mention that, in the returns from which this table is made up, immigrants to the Dominion are all counted at the first port of arrival, and emigrants at the final port of departure.
