And whereas the Masterton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the Borough of Masterton :

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that on and after the 14th day of August, 1916, all such shops in the Borough of Masterton shall be closed as follows : Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, at 6 p.m. ; Saturdays, at 9.30 p.m. The hours so fixed are pursuant to subsection (4) of the above-mentioned section, to be observed subject to the closing at not later than 1 p.m. for the half-holiday on the statutory closing-day ; provided, however, that on the statutory half-holiday such shops may reopen from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances.

The notice gazetted on the 23rd July, 1914, is hereby cancelled.

Revocation of Private Hospital License.


I, GEORGE WARREN RUSSELL, the Minister of the Crown charged with the administration of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1909, do hereby, in pursuance of the provisions of section 116 of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1909, revoke the license issued to Miss Jessie Clark, of Auckland, under the aforesaid Act, for the keeping of a private hospital situated at Pentland Avenue, Auckland, the said revocation to take effect from 1st October.

Date of Election to fill Extraordinary Vacancies in New Plymouth and Hawera Fire Boards by Fire-insurance Companies.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, and the rules made thereunder, I, George Warren Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Saturday, the 19th day of August, 1916, to be the day for holding an election of one member of the New Plymouth Fire Board and the Hawera Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancies caused by the resignation of Mr. F. P. CORKILL.

Notice under the War Regulations declaring certain Companies to be Enemies.


WHEREAS the Attorney-General for the Dominion of New Zealand is satisfied that the companies mentioned in the Schedule hereto are carrying on business to a substantial extent for the benefit of alien enemies resident out of New Zealand :

Now, therefore, I, Alexander Lawrence Herdman, His Majesty’s Attorney-General for the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance of clause 20 of the War Regulations of the 3rd day of April, 1916, under the War Regulations Act, 1914, declare the companies mentioned in the Schedule hereto to be enemies.
