Lands in Wellington Land District open for Selection on Renewable Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 15th December, 1916.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for selection on renewable lease under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, the 21st day of February, 1917.

The ballot will be held on Thursday, the 22nd day of February, 1917, at 2.30 p.m.

SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.

Town Land.—Town of Rangataua.

Section 6, Block II: Area, 1 rood; capital value, £40; half-yearly rent, £1.

Weighted with £120, valuation for improvements.

Situated about a quarter of a mile by metalled road from Rangataua Station, on Main Trunk Railway. Flat land, with soil of light volcanic loam, on grit formation.

The improvements comprise a four-roomed house, sheds, fencing, and well.

Town Land.—Town of Kakahi.

Section 7, Block III: Area, 1 rood; capital value, £50; half-yearly rent, £1 5s.

Weighted with £50, valuation for improvements.

Situated in Kakahi Township, about ten miles south of Taumarunui, the access being by formed dray-road from Kakahi Railway-station, about a quarter of a mile distant. Cleared land, with light soil of a volcanic nature, on pumice formation. Improvements comprise a four-roomed house.

Village-homestead Allotment.—Manunui Village Settlement.

Section 66: Area, 1 acre 0 roods 12 perches; capital value, £35; half-yearly rent, 14s.

Situated in Manunui, on Main Trunk Railway line, the access being from Manunui Railway-station, which is about a quarter of a mile distant by metalled road. Flat land at back, with steep frontage, covered with fern and manuka. Soil of light loamy nature, on pumice formation. Elevation, about 700 ft. above sea-level.

IMPROVEMENTS.

The improvements included in the value of the land are as follows: Section 3, 460 chains of boundary and subdivision fences; Section 4, 320 chains of boundary and subdivision fences; Section 5, 300 chains of boundary and subdivision fences; Section 6, 320 chains of boundary and subdivision fences; Section 7, 220 chains of boundary and subdivision fences; Section 11, 600 chains of boundary and subdivision fences; Section 12, 400 chains of boundary and subdivision fences and three small huts; Section 13, 380 chains of boundary and subdivision fences.

DESCRIPTIONS OF SECTIONS.

Section 3.—About 200 acres rich swamp, 480 acres stony tussock flat, some small patches of bush, remainder good tussock hills. Soil light loam, mostly on clay subsoil; well watered. Altitude, 1,350 ft. to 3,200 ft. Access from Oxford East by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road six miles and a quarter.

Section 4.—About 300 acres rich swamp, some small clumps of birch bush, remainder good tussock hills with light loam mostly on clay; well watered. Altitude, 1,350 ft. to 3,300 ft. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road seven miles and a quarter.

Section 5.—About 500 or 600 acres rich swamp, 750 acres steep hills covered with inferior birch bush, remainder good tussock hills with light loam on clay; well watered. Altitude, 1,400 ft. to 3,400 ft. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road eight miles and a half.

Section 6.—About 600 acres rich swamp, 180 acres inferior birch bush, remainder good tussock hills with light loam on clay; well watered. Altitude, 1,400 ft. to 3,300 ft. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road nine miles and a half.

Section 7.—About 400 acres rich swamp, some large clumps of bush, remainder good tussock hills, with some stony flats. Soil, light loam, mostly on clay; well watered. Altitude, 1,400 ft. to 4,360 ft. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road eleven miles.

Section 11.—About 170 acres rich swamp land, 440 acres birch bush, 1,300 acres good tussock hills with light loam on clay subsoil; remainder stony tussock flats, with light loam on shingle subsoil. Altitude, 1,300 ft. to 3,000 ft. Well watered. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road two miles.

Section 12.—About 270 acres rich swamp land, 350 acres birch bush, 630 acres good tussock hills and terraces with light loam on clay; remainder stony tussock flats, with light loam on shingle; well watered. Altitude, 1,300 ft. to 3,000 ft. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by unformed road three miles and a quarter.

Section 13.—About 235 acres rich swamp land, 200 acres birch bush, 1,300 acres good tussock hills with light loam on clay; remainder stony tussock flats, with shingle subsoil; well watered. Altitude, 1,350 ft. to 3,000 ft. Access from Oxford East, by formed road seventeen miles and by formed road four miles and a half.

Most of the unformed road referred to is passable for wheel traffic.

The block is also accessible by a stock-track over Mount Blowhard, about fifteen miles to the nearest point.

A drainage scheme has been formulated to drain the main swamps, and for the purpose of carrying out this work and subsequently maintaining it free access is reserved over any part of the block, and the right to execute all necessary works in connection therewith without hindrance.

Settlement Lands in Canterbury Land District for Lease to Discharged Soldiers.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Christchurch, 19th December, 1916.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands are open for selection on renewable lease by discharged soldiers under the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915, and the regulations thereunder; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, 27th February, 1917.

Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, on Thursday, 1st March, 1917, at 10 o’clock a.m.

The ballot will be held at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.

NOTICE is hereby given that the education reserves described in the Schedule hereto will be offered for lease by public auction at the District Lands and Survey Office, Hokitika, at 2.30 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, 21st February, 1917, under the provisions of the Education Reserves Act, 1908, and amendments, and the Public Bodies’ Leases Act, 1908.
