SUMATRA, EAST COAST.

ARU BAY AND PALEMBANG RIVER.—TIDAL SIGNALS FROM LIGHT-VESSELS DISCONTINUED.

(a.) Aroe Baai Pilot and Light-vessel.—Position: In the approach to Sembilang Channel. Lat. 4° 11′ N., long. 98° 22½′ E.

(b.) Palembang Pilot and Light-vessel.—Position: At the entrance to Palembang River. Lat. 2° 12′ S., long. 104° 57′ E.

Details.—The tidal signals formerly made from the above light-vessels have been discontinued.

PORTUGAL.

PORTUGUESE ATLANTIC COLONIES AND ISLANDS.

Caution with regard to Extinction of Lights.

(1.) Azores.—Caution: All lights are extinguished with the following exceptions—Arnel and Ferraria Points in San Miguel; Angra Bay and Serreta Point in Terceira; Cap-pellinhos (Comprida) Point in Fayal; Lagens Point in Flores.

(2.) Madeira Islands.—Caution: All lights are extinguished except Fora Island and Porto Santo lights.

(3.) Cape Verde Islands.—Caution: The lights at Porto Grande are extinguished. Ponta do Sol and Bull Point lights will be extinguished on and after 15th October, 1916.

Cape Verde Islands.—Traffic Restrictions.

Entrance to the channel between St. Antonio and St. Vincent Islands from the northward is prohibited during the night. Entrance to Porto Grande is also prohibited at night. Vessels are not permitted to wait within Portuguese waters off the entrance to Porto Grande. Careful attention is to be paid to signals made by patrol vessels, and all orders received from them are to be immediately complied with.

The Public Service Classification and Superannuation Act, 1908.—Election of Members of the Board.

NOTICE is hereby given that an election will be held for the purpose of electing as members of the Public Service Superannuation Board three persons from among the number of contributors to the Public Service Superannuation Fund who belong to Departments of the Public Service other than the Police Department or the Post and Telegraph Department; and notice is further given that—

(1.) The said election will be held on Monday, the 5th day of March, 1917, at the office of the Public Service Superannuation Board, No. 125 Lambton Quay, Wellington.

(2.) The poll will be closed at 5 o’clock p.m. Ballot-papers, enclosed in a sealed envelope addressed to the Returning Officer, may be posted not later than 5 o’clock in the afternoon of the day of the election.

(3.) Nominations will be closed on Monday, the 12th day of February, 1917, at 5 o’clock p.m. Each nomination-paper must be in the form prescribed by the regulations under the above Act, must be signed by at least two other contributors belonging to Departments other than the Police Department or the Post and Telegraph Department, and must bear the written consent of the candidate nominated. Nominations must be delivered personally or by course of post to the Returning Officer.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Education Reserve in Southland Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Invercargill, 12th December, 1916.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned reserve will be offered for lease by public auction, for a term of fourteen years, without right of renewal, at this office on Tuesday, 20th February, 1917, at 11 o’clock a.m., under the provisions of the Education Reserves Act, 1908, and amendments, and the Public Bodies’ Leases Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SOUTHLAND COUNTY.—EDUCATION RESERVE.

Run No. 327c and Sections 5 and 6, Block XI, Wakaia Survey District: Area, 4,932 acres; upset annual rental, £151.

Weighted with £172, valuation for fencing.

One hundred and fifty acres of good level land have been cultivated, the balance (with the exception of 800 acres of manuka scrub) is hilly country in its native state, lying well to the sun. It is open tussock land, free from snow, and well pastured. Situated by good, level, gravelled road, ten miles from Waikai Railway-station.

ABSTRACT OF CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. A half-year’s rent at the rate offered, lease and registration fee, and valuation for improvements to be paid on the fall of the hammer.

  2. The term of the lease will be fourteen years from 1st March, 1917, without right of renewal.

  3. The lessee to pay all rates and taxes.

  4. The Land Board reserves the right to lay off roads through the run where required.

  5. The lessee to be allowed (with the consent of the Land Board) to cultivate for station purposes only, but not for sale, a reasonable area, provided that not more than one white crop and one green crop be taken off the land; such land to be then laid down with good and sound grass and clover seeds of the descriptions and proportions usually sown in the district and most suitable for the land, and to remain in grass for a period of three years, after which period the same process of cultivation may be repeated. All such cultivation to be subject to inspection by the lessor or his agent.
