SIR,—By order of my Government I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that the Government of the Netherlands has forwarded to the Federal Council, on the 7th April last, the instrument of ratification by Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands, dated 1st April, 1915, in regard to the Protocol of 20th March, 1914, additional to the Convention of Berne revised the 13th November, 1908, referring to the protection of literary and artistic works. This instrument of ratification has been deposited in the archives of the Confederation.

MY LORD,—With reference to my despatch No. 460, of the 16th October last, I have the honour to transmit to Your Excellency, for the information of your Ministers, copies of notes received by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from the Swiss Minister regarding the ratification of the additional Protocol of 20th March, 1914, to the Berne Copyright Convention,* by Japan, Denmark, Luxembourg, and Monaco.

SIR,—By order of my Government I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Empire of Japan has forwarded to the Federal Council, with memorandum of the 5th February last, the instrument by which His Majesty the Emperor of Japan signifies his ratification of the additional Protocol of the 20th March, 1914, to the Convention of Berne revised the 13th November, 1908, for the protection of literary and artistic works.
The Japanese memorandum adds that His Majesty the Emperor is pleased to ratify the Protocol in question, taking into consideration its international character, and notwithstanding the fact that one of the signatory States is actually at war with the Empire, with this reserve, that this ratification shall in no way modify the position of the Empire in regard to the enemy State.
The instrument of ratification has been deposited in the archives of the Swiss Confederation.

SIR,—By order of my Government I have the honour to inform your Excellency that the Danish Government, on the 19th instant, forwarded to the Federal Council the instrument by which His Majesty the King of Denmark has been pleased to ratify, on the 13th March, 1915, the additional Protocol of the 20th March, 1914, to the Convention of Berne, revised on the 13th November, 1908, for the protection of literary and artistic works.
The instrument of ratification in question has been deposited in the archives of the Confederation.

SIR,—By order of my Government I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that on the 11th of this month Baron de Groote, Belgian Minister in Switzerland, has forwarded to the Federal Council, for deposit in the archives of the Confederation, the instrument bearing ratification for the Grand-Duchy of Luxemburg of the additional Protocol of the 20th March, 1914, to the Convention of Berne, revised on the 13th November, 1908, for the protection of literary and artistic works. This instrument had been sent to him, by memorandum of the 3rd March, 1915, by His Excellency Monsieur Eyschen, Minister of State, President of the Grand-Ducal Government, with the request to have it deposited in conformity with Article V of the Protocol itself.

NOTICE.—JOSEPH HENRY HEWISON, Esquire, of 237 Collins Street, Melbourne, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, has this day been appointed by His Honour the Chief Justice a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in Victoria, under the 47th section of the Judicature Act, 1908, for the purpose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirmations as in the said section mentioned.
