Applications invited for the position of Rabbiter, Department of Agriculture, Kaitoke.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 27th July, 1915, for the position of Rabbiter, Department of Agriculture, Kaitoke.

  1. Applications, to be made on form P.S.C. 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices, must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants should possess—
    (a.) A thorough knowledge of, and experience in, methods of control of the rabbit pest; and
    (b.) Experience in the eradication of noxious weeds.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, 9s.; maximum, 10s. per diem.

Applications invited for the Positions of Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Engineers, Public Works Department, Lake Coleridge Electric-power Station.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 31st July, 1915, for the positions of Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Engineers, Public Works Department, Lake Coleridge Electric-power Station.

  1. Applications, to be made on form P.S.C. 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices, must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Normal duty will consist of shift-work for six shifts per week of eight hours each; but, in case of breakdown or similar contingency, additional time must be worked as required to deal with the emergency.

  3. The power-house engineers will be responsible to the Power-house Superintendent at Lake Coleridge.

  4. Applicants must have served an apprenticeship as mechanical or mechanical and electrical engineer; and should state fully what experience they have had in operation of large turbines, alternators, and extra-high-tension switchboards.

  5. Cottages are available at Lake Coleridge at rents ranging from 10s. to 6s. per week, including electric lighting, according to the accommodation provided.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salaries: Fifth Engineer, £200; maximum, £220 per annum. Sixth Engineer, £190; maximum, £210 per annum. Seventh Engineer, £180; maximum, £200 per annum. Eighth Engineer, £180; maximum, £200 per annum.

Applications invited for the Position of Assistant Teacher, Education Department, School for the Deaf, Sumner.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 31st July, 1915, for the position of Assistant Teacher, Education Department, School for the Deaf, Sumner.

  1. Applications, to be made on form P.S.C. 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices, must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. The age of candidates should be between eighteen and twenty-two years.

  3. Candidates should show that they possess a good education, an earnest spirit, a cheerful and amiable disposition, good character, and at least two years’ experience as a teacher of hearing children.

  4. The holding of a “D” certificate, or having passed the Matriculation or Public Service Examination, would be a recommendation.

  5. The appointment would be on probation for the first year.

  6. It is expected that the person appointed will advance himself in his profession by an approved course of study.

  7. If the person appointed should be required to take up the position of resident house-teacher, either continuously or from time to time, free board and lodging would be given during such time, in consideration of the extra duties performed.

  8. At the end of five years’ satisfactory service a certificate would be be given that the teacher had received training in the articulation method of instruction of the deaf.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the Educational Division. Salary, £110; maximum £170 per annum.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 31st July, 1915, for the position of Engineer’s Assistant, Electrical Engineer’s Office, Public Works Department, Wellington.

  1. Applications to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices, must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. The successful applicant will be required to carry out engineering surveys, water-power development, and to prepare plans of headworks in connection therewith. Preference will be given to applicants with technical education and workshop experience.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £180.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 55 of 1914, notice is hereby given that the time-signals at the Wellington Observatory are now given throughout one hour earlier than previously—viz., at 7, 8, 9, and 10 p.m. of New Zealand mean time.

The corresponding Greenwich mean time (counted from noon) and New Zealand civil mean time of these signals are as under:—
