Tortolita Islet Light.—Approx. position: Lat. 8° 51′ 52″ N., long. 79° 33′ 36″ W.

Commission Rock Gas-buoy.—Approx. position: Lat. 8° 51′ 11″ N., long. 79° 33′ 54″ W.

Melones Island Light.—Approx. position: Lat. 8° 48′ 55″ N., long. 79° 36′ 36″ W.

Chame Point Light.—Approx. position on H.O. Chart No. 1790: Lat. 8° 39′ 40″ N., long. 79° 41′ 45″ W.

LIGHTS ESTABLISHED.—Information has been received through the Governor of the Canal Zone, Panama, that the following lights have been established by the Republic of Panama:—

Mensabé Light No. 10: Flashing red every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—visible 9 miles, on the edge of the reef on the northern side of the entrance to Mensabé, about 25 miles north-westward of Cape Mala and about halfway between Iguana Island and Villa Island.

Chitre Light No. 9: Flashing white every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—visible 10 miles, between Lisa and Estero Points, on the southern bank of Rio la Villa.

Agua Dulce Dolphin Light No. 7: Flashing white every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—visible 10 miles, on Banco Negro, about 2 miles off the mouth of Rio Dulce.

Agua Dulce Light No. 8: Flashing white, with green sectors, every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—visible 5 miles, on the northern bank at the mouth of Rio Dulce.

Puerto Pasada Light No. 6: Flashing white every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—visible 5 miles, at the mouth of Estero Viejo.

Anton Point Light No. 5: Flashing white every second—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 0·7 second—visible 5 miles, on Anton (Antoine) Point.

San Carlos Light No. 4: Flashing white, every second—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 0·7 second—visible 5 miles, on the north bank at the entrance to Rio Mata Ahogada, immediately northward of Calabaza Point.

Taboga Island Light No. 3: Flashing green every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 second, eclipsed 2·7 seconds—visible 9 miles, at the northern point of the western side of Taboga Island. This light is visible over an arc of 190° from 10° to 200° and is obscured elsewhere.

TABOGUILLA ISLAND.—INTENDED LIGHT.—About July, 1915, a 4th-order flashing light every 7 seconds—thus, flash 2 seconds, eclipsed 5 seconds—visible 12 miles, will be established on the small island on the eastern side of Taboguilla Island.

The light will be exhibited 200 ft. above high water from a white skeleton steel tower about 15 ft. high and inconspicuous as a daymark, and will show the following sectors: White, over an arc of 180° from 180° to 0°; red, over an arc of 40° from 0° to 40°, covering Farallon Rock and the submerged rocks south-westward; obscured elsewhere.

BONA ISLAND.—INTENDED LIGHT.—About July, 1915, a 3rd-order flashing white light every 13 seconds—thus, flash 3 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds—visible 15 miles, will be established on Bona Island.

The light will be exhibited 700 ft. above high water from a white skeleton steel tower about 15 ft. high and inconspicuous as a daymark, erected on the summit of the island, and will be visible over an arc of 250° from 170° to 60°.

NOTE.—On account of the great height of this light it may sometimes be invisible on account of mist or haze.

Approx. position: Lat. 8° 34′ 30″ N., long. 79° 35′ 30″ W.

GULF OF PANAMA.—CAPE MALA.—INTENDED LIGHT.—About July, 1915, a 1st-order flashing light every 20 seconds—thus, flash 5 seconds, eclipsed 15 seconds—visible 18 miles, will be established on Cape Mala.

The light will be exhibited 140 ft. above high water from a skeleton steel tower with battens on two sides, the whole painted white, and will show the following sectors: Red, over an arc of 40° from 160° to 200°, covering Iguana Island and Reef; white, over an arc of 195° from 200° to 35°; red, over an arc of 30° from 35° to 65°, covering North and South Fraile Rocks.

Approx. position: Lat. 7° 27′ 30″ N., long. 79° 59′ 30″ W.

CHILE.

RADIO STATIONS.—INFORMATION.—The Chilean Government has given the following notice concerning the radio stations in Chile:—

The following radio stations have been temporarily discontinued,—

Arica.—Marconi system, with wave-length of 600 to 1,300 metres and call letters C C A. Approx. position: Lat. 18° 29′ S., long. 70° 20′ 15″ W.

Antofagasta.—Marconi system, with wave-length of 600 to 1,300 metres and call letters C C B. Approx. position: Lat. 23° 27′ 35″ S., long. 70° 31′ 30″ W.

Coquimbo.—Marconi system, with wave-length of 600 to 1,300 metres and call letters C C O. Approx. position: Lat. 29° 57′ 35″ S., long. 71° 20′ W.

The following radio stations have been opened to public service,—

Valparaiso.—Marconi and Telefunken systems, with wave-length of 600 to 1,300 metres and call letters C C V. Approx. position: Lat. 33° 1′ 6″ S., long. 73° 39′ 6″ W.

Port Talcahuano.—Telefunken system, with wave-length of 600 to 2,200 metres and call letters C C T. Approx. position: Lat. 36° 44′ S., long. 73° 5′ 35″ W.

Mocha Island.—Marconi system, with wave-length of 600 metres and call letters C C M. Approx. position: Lat. 38° 22′ 12″ S., long. 73° 53′ 54″ W.

Punta Arenas.—Marconi system, with wave-length of 2,900 to 5,300 metres and call letters C C P.

Punta Arenas.—Marconi system, with wave-length of 600 to 1,600 metres and call letters C C P.

Approx. position: Lat. 53° 10′ S., long. 70° 54′ W.

The following radio stations are in course of construction,—

Juan Fernandez Island.—Call letters C C J. Approx. position: Lat. 33° 37′ S., long. 78° 53′ W.

Llanquihue.—Two stations with call letters C C L. Approx. position: Lat. 41° 22′ S., long. 72° 55′ W.

The following radio stations will be established,—

Guafo (Huafo) Island.—Call letters C C H. Approx. position: Lat. 43° 41′ S., long. 74° 39′ W.

Cape Raper.—Call letters C C R. Approx. position: Lat. 46° 50′ S., long. 75° 38′ W.

Evangelista Islets (Los Evangelistas).—Call letters C C Z. Approx. position: Lat. 52° 25′ S., long. 75° 7′ W.

NOTE.—The above positions must be considered approximate.

BRAZIL.

NORTH-EAST COAST.—CAPE ST. ROQUE LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC.—The characteristic of Cape St. Roque light is flashing, showing white and red flashes alternately every 5 seconds, and not as shown on H.O. Chart No. 970.

Approx. position: Lat. 5° 29′ 15″ S., long. 35° 16′ W.

EAST COAST.—HOTSPUR BANK.—BREAKERS NORTH-EASTWARD.—Breakers extending over a distance of about 400 yards have been reported north-eastward of Hotspur Bank.

Approx. position: Lat. 17° 36′ S., long. 35° 17′ W.

RIO GRANDE DO NORTE LIGHT.—CHARACTERISTIC.—The characteristic of Rio Grande do Norte light is flashing, with 1 group of 3 flashes every 30 seconds—thus, white flash, eclipsed 4 seconds; white flash, eclipsed 13 seconds; red flash, eclipsed 13 seconds—and not as shown on H.O. Chart No. 970.

Approx. position: Lat. 5° 45′ 5″ S., long. 35° 11′ 55″ W.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

KAUAI ISLAND.—EAST COAST.—ANAHOLA RANGE-LIGHTS DISCONTINUED.—On 1st April, 1915, Anahola Range-lights were permanently discontinued.

These lights were formerly maintained by the Inter-Island Steam Navigation Company, and were exhibited when steamers were expected.

AIDS TO NAVIGATION.—NOTIFICATION REQUESTED.—Masters of vessels navigating the waters of the Hawaiian Islands are requested to notify the lighthouse tender “Columbine” by radio when aids to navigation are found defective or adrift, that prompt action may be taken to restore them to service conditions.
