APPOINTMENT OF CHAUFFEUR.
The appointment of chauffeur shall be made by the Board at a wage to be agreed upon.
Such appointment shall be terminated by a fortnight’s notice given either by the employer or the employee.
The chauffeur shall reside at the fire-station, be a member of the fire brigade, and subject to all its rules and regulations.
DUTIES OF CHAUFFEUR.

Subject to instructions (or orders) from the Superintendent or his deputy, the chauffeur shall have sole charge of the motor-reel, and be responsible for the same being kept in good running-order and condition.

He shall be responsible for the keeping clean and in good order and condition the whole of the brigade’s plant and equipment, also the station premises ; other members’ rooms excepted.

He shall teach such other members of the brigade to drive the motor-reel as the Superintendent shall appoint for the purpose.

During such hours as may be arranged by the Superintendent the chauffeur or the driver for the time being shall be responsible for watch duty.

In addition to the aforesaid duties, the chauffeur shall take part in all station drills, and attend all calls of the brigade.

Should a call be received when there are less than four members of the brigade present, the chauffeur or the driver for the time being shall drive slowly until that number are on the motor-reel.

No persons other than members of the brigade shall be permitted to ride on the motor-reel without the sanction of the Superintendent or his deputy.

Excepting for the purpose of responding to calls, the motor-reel must not leave the station without the sanction of the Superintendent or his deputy.

The chauffeur shall, for the purpose of carrying out watch duty in conjunction with his other duties, remain on the station premises, within hearing of the telephone, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

When he is not on watch duty he may leave the station premises, but must keep within a boundary comprising Arawa Street, Fenton, Pukuatua, and Tutanekai Streets.

He may be relieved from duty every alternate Sunday between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11.30 p.m., and on special occasions with the approval of the Superintendent or his deputy.
The foregoing by-laws were made by the Rotorua Fire Board on the 16th day of March, 1915, and sealed on the 3rd day of April, 1915.

Approval of Fees for Licensing of Vehicles fixed by By-law, Awakino County Council.

I T is hereby notified, in accordance with section 107 of the Counties Act, 1908, that so much of the by-laws made by the Awakino County Council, and sealed on the 15th day of May, 1915, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the Awakino County Funds for the licensing of vehicles has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor.

Dates of Election of Members of the Woolston Fire Board.

P URSUANT to section 18 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1908, I, Francis Henry Dillon Bell, Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Monday, the 26th day of July, 1915, to be the day for the holding of an election of three members of the Woolston Fire Board by the contributing local authority. And I do further appoint Monday, the 26th day of July, 1915, to be the day for the holding of an election of three members of the said Woolston Fire Board by the insurance companies which for the time being are carrying on business within the said Woolston Fire District.

Varied Notice No. 2 fixing the Closing-hours of Boot-dealers’ Shops in the Borough of New Plymouth, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the boot-dealers’ shops (exclusive of bootmakers’ and boot-repairing shops) in the Borough of New Plymouth, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the borough shall be closed in the evening of Saturday at 9 p.m. :
And whereas the New Plymouth Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the boot-dealers’ shops within the Borough of New Plymouth (exclusive of bootmakers’ and boot-repairing shops) :
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour; in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 12th day of July, 1915, all such shops in the Borough of New Plymouth shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
The notice gazetted on the 16th day of March, 1911, fixing the closing-hours of all the boot and shoe dealers’ shops within the borough is hereby varied accordingly.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Chemists’ Shops in the City of Wellington, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops in the City of Wellington, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m. ; provided that on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the closing-hour shall be 11 p.m., and that on each of the six working-days immediately preceding Christmas Eve the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m. :
And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the chemists’ shops within the City of Wellington :
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 12th day of July, 1915, all chemists’ shops in the City of Wellington shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
The notice gazetted on the 18th day of December, 1913, fixing the closing-hours of chemists’ shops in the city is hereby cancelled accordingly.
NOTE.—On the statutory half-holiday chemists’ shops may reopen from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. only for the supply of medicines and surgical appliances.

And whereas the Wellington City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hardware shops within the City of Wellington :
Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 12th day of July, 1915, all hardware shops in the City of Wellington shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
